Free online WPD to PDF converter

Recipients, filing portals, and print workflows often require PDF when the source document was created in WordPerfect and the recipient cannot open .wpd files. PDF preserves a fixed page layout for distribution and printing, while the original WPD file remains the editable source.

What WPD files contain

WPD is the document format principally used by Corel WordPerfect. It can contain formatted text, page layouts, tables, headers, footnotes, styles, images, hyperlinks, and WordPerfect-specific document features.

WPD files are common in legal, government, business, academic, and personal archives that used WordPerfect. The .wpd extension is not exclusive to one internal format, so a file from an unrelated application or a very old WordPerfect release may not open correctly in every converter.

What PDF provides

PDF is a fixed-layout document format intended to reproduce pages consistently across operating systems, browsers, devices, and printers. A PDF can contain fonts, images, hyperlinks, bookmarks, forms, metadata, and optional security controls.

PDF is suitable for submission, printing, and sharing final pages without requiring WordPerfect. It is not inherently uneditable or secure: PDF editors can modify many files, and password or permission restrictions must be applied separately when required.

Convert the file

Convert with Corel WordPerfect

Corel WordPerfect is the preferred desktop option for files created in WordPerfect, especially when they contain complex tables, legacy formatting, footnotes, or document-specific features.

1. Open the .wpd file in WordPerfect.
2. Check page breaks, headers, footnotes, tables, images, and any tracked-change display settings.
3. Select File → Publish to PDF.
4. Choose the destination filename and required PDF settings, then create the PDF.

If an older installation lacks the publishing command, use File → Print and select an installed PDF printer. File → Publish to PDF is preferable when available because it exposes PDF-specific settings and may retain hyperlinks or bookmarks more effectively than printing.

Use LibreOffice Writer when needed

LibreOffice Writer can import many WordPerfect documents, but its WordPerfect import support may not reproduce every version or feature exactly. Open the file, correct any changed layout, then select File → Export As → Export as PDF and choose the output settings.

Do not rely on an imported document until you compare it with the original. WordPerfect-specific styles, tables, page numbering, cross-references, embedded objects, and conditional text can change during import.

Check quality and compatibility

Missing fonts commonly change line wrapping, page breaks, and table widths. Convert on a system with the original fonts installed, and embed fonts in the PDF when the export settings permit it.

PDF conversion creates a rendered output, not a reliable editable round trip. Converting the PDF back to WPD will not normally restore WordPerfect styles, document structure, pagination, or application-specific objects.

Macros do not run in PDF. Form controls, revision marks, linked content, and embedded objects may be flattened, omitted, or represented as static page content; verify the visible result and any required links or bookmarks.

Image-heavy documents can produce large PDFs. Reduce image resolution or compression only after checking that fine print, signatures, stamps, and diagrams remain legible. For records workflows requiring archival conformance, use a PDF/A option only when available and validate the resulting file against the required policy.
