Free online LVM to PDF converter

Measurement results stored in LabVIEW Measurement Files often must be sent to recipients who do not have LabVIEW, printed, or archived as a fixed-layout report. Converting the data to PDF makes the results easier to view and share, but the original LVM should be retained for later analysis.

What the LVM format is

LVM means LabVIEW Measurement File. National Instruments LabVIEW creates LVM files for measurement and acquisition data, commonly through the Write To Measurement File Express VI. An LVM file is a text-based, tab-delimited document with a header containing information such as channel names, units, date, time, sampling details, and comments, followed by one or more measurement data sections.

Laboratories, engineering teams, and operators of equipment controlled by LabVIEW use LVM files. A text editor can display the contents, but ordinary document software may not correctly interpret multiple data sections, channel metadata, or LabVIEW-specific formatting.

What the PDF format is

PDF preserves page layout, text, fonts, graphics, and tables independently of the software used to create the document. It is suitable for printing, submitting reports, distributing measurement results, and visually archiving records because most computers can display it without LabVIEW.

PDF is a presentation format, not a replacement for the measurement data. Numeric values may be selectable or searchable, but charts and tables in a PDF are less suitable for recalculation than the original .lvm file.

How to convert an LVM file to PDF

Using the built-in converter

1. Open the LVM-to-PDF converter on 101convert.com.
2. Add the .lvm file and start the conversion.
3. Download the generated PDF and check its pages, tables, channel labels, units, and numeric values.

This option requires no installed software and is suitable when the file does not contain restricted laboratory, medical, or industrial information. Use a local workflow for confidential measurements or data governed by an internal security policy.

Using LabVIEW

1. Open LabVIEW and create or open a VI containing the Read From Measurement File Express VI.
2. Select the .lvm file and configure the reader for the required channels and time or sample information.
3. Display the results in a waveform graph, chart, or table. Add channel names, units, test identifiers, and relevant comments to the front panel.
4. Adjust graph scales, legends, precision, page orientation, and the amount of data shown. Plotting every point from a large acquisition can produce unreadable pages.
5. Choose File → Print and select a PDF printer, such as Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows. If the LabVIEW installation includes report-generation functionality, use its PDF output when a formatted report is required.

LabVIEW provides the most control over charts and measurement metadata, but printing a VI creates a report view; it does not preserve the original acquisition configuration or analysis behavior in the PDF.

Using a spreadsheet application

1. Open LibreOffice Calc or another spreadsheet application and choose File → Open.
2. Select the .lvm file. In the text-import dialog, choose tab separation and identify the row containing the measurement columns.
3. Remove or reorganize header material as needed, format the columns, and add charts or report headings.
4. Set the print area, page scaling, orientation, units, and column widths, then choose File → Export as PDF or File → Print with a PDF printer.

This method works best for simple, single-section LVM files. Headers, comments, repeated channel groups, and multiple measurement sections may require manual cleanup before export.

Quality and compatibility limits

An LVM-to-PDF conversion normally produces a visual report rather than a guaranteed one-to-one rendering of every record. Large datasets may be summarized in charts or split across many pages, while header fields and comments may need deliberate placement.

Inspect the PDF at 100% size for clipped columns, missing units, unreadable legends, incorrect decimal formatting, and unsuitable page breaks. Keep the original .lvm file with the PDF when numerical reuse, traceability, or auditability matters; PDF export cannot preserve LabVIEW channel configuration, acquisition settings, or raw-data analysis.
