How to convert prd to pdf file

A PRD presentation often needs conversion when a recipient lacks SoftMaker Presentations or when the file must be printed, shared, or archived in a fixed-layout format. PDF can display the pages without requiring the original presentation software.

What the PRD format is

In the Documents category, .prd is a legacy presentation format used by SoftMaker Presentations, the presentation application in SoftMaker Office. It stores presentation pages, text, images, shapes, charts, and formatting. Newer SoftMaker versions may also use .prdx, so the file extension and its source application should be confirmed before conversion.

PRD is not a universal document standard. Open the file in SoftMaker Presentations rather than renaming .prd to .pdf; changing an extension does not convert the file.

What the PDF format is

PDF is a fixed-layout document format that preserves page dimensions, positioning, fonts where embedded or available, images, and print appearance across operating systems. It is suitable for sending a final presentation to people without SoftMaker Office, printing it, and storing a distribution copy.

PDF is less convenient to edit than the original PRD. It normally contains static pages, so animations, transitions, audio, video, and presentation controls are not preserved as interactive features.

How to convert PRD to PDF with SoftMaker

  1. Install a SoftMaker Office edition that includes Presentations, then open the .prd file with File → Open.
  2. Review the slides for missing fonts, altered line breaks, misplaced objects, image cropping, incorrect dimensions, and changed slide order.
  3. Choose File → Export as PDF. If the installed release uses different wording, use its PDF export command or PDF toolbar button rather than a generic save operation.
  4. Select the required slides or the complete presentation, set image resolution and other available PDF options, and choose a destination such as presentation.pdf.
  5. Open the exported file in a PDF viewer and inspect every page. Check text wrapping, fonts, images, orientation, hyperlinks, and page numbering before sharing it.

SoftMaker Presentations is the preferred option because it is the native application and can interpret legacy PRD structures more reliably than a generic converter. Keep the original PRD as the editable master.

Online conversion options

Online services such as Zamzar, CloudConvert, and Convertio may accept PRD files, but support depends on the service and the particular SoftMaker variant. Confirm that .prd is listed as an input format immediately before uploading; if it is not listed, use SoftMaker Presentations instead.

  1. Upload the PRD file to the converter’s official website.
  2. Choose PDF as the output format and start the conversion.
  3. Download the result and inspect it page by page in a PDF viewer.

Online conversion sends the source file to a third party. Avoid it for confidential presentations, personal data, unpublished business material, or files subject to contractual or organizational retention rules. Check the service’s deletion and privacy terms before uploading.

Quality and compatibility limits

Missing or substituted fonts can change line breaks, text placement, and page count. Install licensed fonts used by the presentation, or replace them in SoftMaker Presentations before exporting. Objects or effects supported by the original version may also be altered when a legacy PRD file is opened in a newer release.

PDF export creates a visual copy, not an editable presentation. Converting the PDF back to PRD or another presentation format can lose text structure, object positions, fonts, hyperlinks, and slide properties. For archival use, select PDF/A if the installed exporter provides that option, then verify the resulting file in a PDF viewer.
