Free online GAN to PDF converter

A PDF is easier to print, email, archive, and open on devices without GanttProject. Converting a project is useful when recipients need a fixed-layout schedule instead of an editable planning file.

What the GAN format is

.gan is the native XML-based project format used by GanttProject, a free desktop application for building Gantt charts. Project managers and teams use GAN files to store tasks, hierarchies, dates, milestones, dependencies, resources, and scheduling data. The format is intended for editing in GanttProject rather than for general-purpose document viewing.

What the PDF format is

PDF is a fixed-layout document format that can preserve page arrangement, text, chart positioning, and pagination across operating systems. It is suitable for printed schedules, client or management reports, email distribution, and archival reference. A PDF export represents the schedule visually; it does not retain the editable task model, dependency structure, or resource data in a form that GanttProject can reliably reconstruct.

How to convert a GAN file to PDF

Export from GanttProject

1. Install GanttProject from its official website and open the .gan file with File → Open.
2. Check the task dates, chart time range, dependency lines, resource assignments, hidden columns, and visible task rows before exporting.
3. Use File → Export → PDF if that command is present. Menu names and export options vary between GanttProject releases.
4. Choose the available page settings, including paper size, portrait or landscape orientation, scale, date range, and whether the task table and chart appear together.
5. Save the result with a name such as project-schedule.pdf, then open it in a PDF viewer to inspect every page.

Print to a PDF file

If the installed release has no PDF export command, open the GAN file and select File → Print. Choose Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows or Save as PDF in a macOS or Linux print dialog. Use landscape orientation, an appropriate paper size, and a scale that keeps task names and dates legible before saving.

Quality and compatibility limits

• Large schedules may become unreadable when compressed onto one page. Use landscape orientation, a larger paper size, multiple pages, or a shorter date range.
• PDF output reflects the schedule as rendered by the installed GanttProject version at export time. It is not an editable project file.
• Check page breaks, clipped columns, dependency lines, fonts, and small labels before distribution; export settings and PDF printer drivers can change pagination.
• Generic online converters usually do not parse GanttProject’s project structure, so they may reject GAN files or produce an unusable result. No online service should be required for this conversion; exporting locally also prevents exposure of task names, dates, personnel, or client information.
• Keep the original .gan file with the PDF when future schedule changes are possible. The PDF cannot reliably recreate the project.
