How to convert pdf to jpg file

A website, presentation, messaging app, or upload form may accept images but reject document files. Rendering a PDF page as JPG creates a widely supported preview or image attachment without requiring the recipient to open a PDF.

What the PDF format is

PDF (Portable Document Format) preserves page layout, fonts, text, vector graphics, images, and print dimensions across operating systems. Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, web browsers, scanners, design applications, and document-management systems create PDFs used for invoices, forms, manuals, contracts, scanned records, and publications.

A PDF can contain selectable text and vector objects, or consist entirely of scanned page images. Converting it to JPG normally renders each complete page; it does not extract the original photographs or other embedded images. A multi-page PDF normally produces one JPG file per page.

What the JPG format is

JPG, also called JPEG, is a raster image format intended for photographs and other images with continuous color. Its lossy compression creates smaller files than uncompressed formats, so JPG is widely accepted by websites, image-upload forms, email, presentations, browsers, and phone galleries.

JPG does not retain selectable text, hyperlinks, layers, bookmarks, form fields, searchable structure, or vector objects. It also does not support transparency. The output is a flat image that can be viewed and edited by common software such as Windows Photos, macOS Preview, GIMP, Photoshop, and mobile gallery applications.

How to convert a PDF to JPG

Using 101convert.com

  1. Open the PDF-to-JPG converter on 101convert.com; it can be used free without installing software.
  2. Select the source PDF from your device.
  3. Start the conversion and wait for the pages to be rendered.
  4. Download the resulting JPG files. A multi-page PDF produces separate images, which may be offered individually or in a ZIP archive.

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro

  1. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  2. Choose File → Export To → Image → JPEG.
  3. Choose the output location and select Export.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is primarily a viewer and generally does not include Acrobat Pro’s JPEG export function. Menu names can differ between Acrobat versions.

Using ImageMagick

ImageMagick can rasterize PDF pages from a terminal, but PDF support commonly requires Ghostscript and may be blocked by ImageMagick’s security policy. A typical command is:

magick -density 200 input.pdf -quality 90 page-%03d.jpg

-density 200 renders at 200 DPI, -quality 90 sets JPEG compression quality, and page-%03d.jpg creates numbered files such as page-000.jpg. If transparent PDF content produces an unwanted background, add -background white -alpha remove. Check the output before deleting the source, because ImageMagick settings and version behavior can vary.

Quality and compatibility limits

Use 150–200 DPI for screen viewing and ordinary sharing; use 300 DPI when small text must remain readable or the image may be printed. Higher DPI increases pixel dimensions, processing time, and file size, but cannot restore detail missing from the source PDF.

JPEG compression can blur text, create ringing around sharp edges, and change solid colors. PNG is usually a better target for line art, diagrams, screenshots, and forms with small text; JPG is usually smaller for photographic pages. If recipients need searchable text, selectable content, hyperlinks, accessibility information, or print-ready vector graphics, keep the original PDF.

Large-format pages can produce unusually large JPG dimensions and files. Password-encrypted PDFs require the password, and some applications may refuse export when document permissions restrict it. Bookmarks, links, annotations, metadata, embedded fonts, form controls, and accessibility structure do not remain as editable PDF features after rasterization.
