How to convert orf to jpg file

Many phones, browsers, and applications cannot open Olympus ORF photos directly, so sharing or uploading them often requires a more compatible format. Converting ORF to JPG creates a smaller, widely supported copy for web use, printing, documents, and everyday sharing.

What the ORF format is

ORF (Olympus Raw Format) is a RAW image format used by Olympus and OM SYSTEM cameras, including OM-D and PEN models. It stores largely unprocessed data from the camera sensor rather than a finished photograph, along with metadata such as exposure settings and lens information.

Because an ORF file retains substantially more exposure and color information than a rendered JPG, it is useful for correcting white balance, highlights, shadows, and color during editing. It requires RAW-compatible software, such as Olympus Workspace, OM SYSTEM software, Adobe Lightroom, darktable, or RawTherapee. Support can vary between camera models and software versions.

What the JPG format is

JPG, also called JPEG, is a compressed raster-image format supported by web browsers, operating systems, phones, office applications, and most photo printers. It is suitable for email, websites, social media, documents, and general photo sharing.

JPG files are usually much smaller than ORF files because they contain a rendered image and use lossy compression. The smaller size and broad compatibility come at the cost of editing latitude: a JPG does not preserve the original sensor data or all of the adjustments available from the ORF.

Convert ORF to JPG online

  1. Open the ORF-to-JPG converter on 101convert.com.
  2. Select or drag the .orf file into the upload area.
  3. Choose JPG or JPEG as the output format if the converter asks for a format.
  4. Start the conversion and download the resulting .jpg file.

This method is suitable for producing a quick sharing copy without installing software. Keep the original ORF, because the JPG cannot restore RAW editing information.

Convert ORF with Olympus Workspace

  1. Open Olympus Workspace and browse to the folder containing the ORF files.
  2. Select one or more photographs and open the export command, commonly File → Export.
  3. Choose JPEG as the output format and select a destination folder.
  4. Set the JPEG quality and output dimensions, then confirm the export.

Workspace can apply RAW adjustments and camera-style processing before rendering the JPG. Menu names can differ between Workspace versions, so use the export function shown in the installed version.

Convert ORF with a RAW editor

In Adobe Lightroom, import the ORF files, make any required adjustments, select the photographs, and choose File → Export. Set the file format to JPEG, choose the quality, dimensions, color space, and destination, then select Export.

In darktable, import the file, adjust it in the darkroom view if needed, select it in the lighttable view, and use Export selected. Set the format to JPEG, choose the output folder and quality, and start the export. Both applications support processing multiple files, although exact controls depend on the version.

Quality and compatibility limits

Conversion renders the ORF using a selected white balance, exposure, sharpening, noise-reduction setting, color profile, and image size. It does not make an incorrectly exposed, blurred, or out-of-focus photograph recoverable, and JPEG compression discards image information.

A JPEG quality setting around 85–95 commonly provides a useful size-to-detail balance, but the ideal value depends on the intended use. Use the camera's full pixel dimensions for printing or later cropping; reduce dimensions only when a website, email service, or device requires a smaller file.

Choose an sRGB color profile for websites, phones, and most consumer applications. Preserve the ORF as the archival original and use the JPG as a derivative copy. For private or sensitive photographs, a desktop converter avoids uploading the source file to a website.
