How to convert ppt to jpg file

A recipient may need slide images because their device or application cannot open PowerPoint, a website accepts only JPG files, or the slides must be shared and archived without editing. Conversion produces one static JPG image per slide; it does not create an editable presentation.

What the PPT format is

.ppt is the binary presentation format used by Microsoft PowerPoint 97–2003. It can contain slides, text, images, charts, animations, transitions, speaker notes, and formatting in an editable file. Microsoft PowerPoint creates and opens PPT files, while LibreOffice Impress and some other presentation applications can import them. Newer PowerPoint versions normally use .pptx, the newer XML-based format.

What the JPG format is

.jpg and .jpeg are extensions for the same raster image format. JPG uses lossy compression, so it is widely supported and often smaller than lossless formats, making it suitable for web pages, email attachments, previews, and devices that do not support presentation files. Compression can produce visible artifacts around text, diagrams, screenshots, and sharp edges, especially after repeated saving.

How to convert PPT to JPG

Microsoft PowerPoint

  1. Open the .ppt file in PowerPoint and check that fonts, images, charts, and effects appear correctly.
  2. Choose File → Save As.
  3. Select JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg) as the file type and choose a destination.
  4. Select Every Slide to export the complete presentation, or Just This One to export only the displayed slide.

PowerPoint normally creates a folder containing numbered files such as Slide1.jpg and Slide2.jpg. The source PPT file remains unchanged. The export reflects the slide's visual appearance, not its editable objects or presentation behavior.

LibreOffice Impress

Open the file in LibreOffice Impress and use File → Export, then select JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group (.jpg). Depending on the installed version, the export may apply to the current slide or selected content rather than the whole presentation; repeat the export for additional slides when necessary. Review the result because font substitution and differences in PowerPoint effect support can change the layout.

Convert without installing software

You can convert a PPT file for free on 101convert.com: upload the presentation, select JPG as the output format, start the conversion, and download the generated slide images. Do not upload confidential presentations unless the service's current privacy and retention terms are acceptable; use PowerPoint for sensitive files or when local processing is required.

Quality and compatibility limits

  • Each output file is a flat image. Text, charts, shapes, hyperlinks, animations, transitions, audio, video, and speaker notes are no longer independently editable.
  • Animations and transitions are not preserved. Only the slide's rendered visual state is exported.
  • Export quality depends on the application's rendering settings and the image dimensions. Small text and detailed diagrams may become difficult to read when enlarged or printed.
  • PNG is usually a better choice than JPG for fine text, line art, screenshots, and large areas of a single color because it uses lossless compression. Use JPG when broad compatibility or smaller files is the priority.
  • Missing fonts, linked files, unsupported effects, and differences between PowerPoint and other presentation software can alter the output. Inspect every exported image at its intended display or print size.
