PDF (Portable Document Format) is a widely used file format developed by Adobe for presenting documents, including text and images, independent of software, hardware, or operating systems. SRW is a raw image file format created by Samsung digital cameras. It stores unprocessed image data directly from the camera sensor, allowing for greater flexibility in post-processing.

Why convert PDF to SRW?

Converting a PDF to SRW is an uncommon workflow, as PDF is a document format and SRW is a camera raw image format. However, you might want to convert a PDF page or image into a raw format for advanced photo editing or camera simulation purposes.

How to convert PDF to SRW

There is no direct converter that transforms PDF files into SRW raw images. The process involves two main steps:

1. Extract images from PDF: Use a PDF viewer or editor to export or save the desired page or image as a standard image format (such as JPEG, PNG, or TIFF).
2. Convert image to SRW: Use a raw image editor or converter to convert the extracted image to the SRW format. Note that most software does not support saving to SRW, as it is proprietary to Samsung cameras. Instead, you may need to use a DNG (Digital Negative) format, which is more widely supported for raw image editing.

Recommended software for conversion

• Adobe Acrobat: Use File → Export To → Image to extract images from PDF.
• GIMP (with UFRaw plugin): Open the exported image and attempt to save as a raw format. However, direct SRW export is not supported.
• Adobe Photoshop: Open the image and use File → Save As to export to TIFF or DNG for raw editing.
• RawTherapee: For advanced raw image processing, but does not export to SRW.

Note: There is currently no mainstream software that can convert standard images to the proprietary SRW format. For most purposes, converting to DNG or TIFF is the best alternative for raw-like editing.
