Free online EPS to PNG converter

Browsers, office applications, mobile devices, and many image editors do not render EPS files directly, so logos and print artwork often need a PNG copy for sharing or previewing. Conversion also creates a fixed-size raster image that is easier to place in documents and presentations.

What the EPS format is

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a PostScript-based graphics format used for logos, illustrations, diagrams, advertisements, and print production. It normally contains a bounding box and drawing instructions for paths, fills, text, and sometimes embedded raster images, rather than pixels at one fixed resolution.

Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Affinity Designer, and older desktop-publishing systems can create EPS files. Print shops, logo libraries, legacy design workflows, and vector archives commonly supply them. An EPS can include a low-resolution preview for applications that cannot render PostScript, but that preview is not necessarily the actual artwork. EPS is not guaranteed to be entirely vector; embedded photographs and other raster objects may already have fixed resolution.

What the PNG format is

PNG is a raster format supported by web browsers, office software, mobile devices, and most image editors. Its lossless compression preserves hard edges and flat colors without the JPEG artifacts caused by lossy compression. PNG also supports an alpha channel for transparent backgrounds.

Unlike EPS, PNG has fixed pixel dimensions. Enlarging it beyond its exported size can make text and edges appear soft, so choose the required dimensions before conversion. PNG is suitable for web graphics, interface images, screenshots, diagrams, and logos that do not need further vector editing.

How to convert EPS to PNG

Using 101convert.com

To convert without installing software, upload the EPS to 101convert.com, select PNG as the output format, start the conversion, and download the resulting file. Do not upload confidential artwork, unreleased designs, or files containing sensitive information to an online service.

Using Inkscape

1. Open the EPS with File → Open. Inkscape may require Ghostscript to interpret PostScript; install it if prompted, then reopen the file.
2. Open File → Export. Select Page to export the document page or Drawing to crop the PNG to the artwork bounds.
3. Set the output width and height, or set the DPI. For screen use, choose dimensions that match the intended display size; 300 DPI is suitable when a raster file is needed for print production.
4. Choose PNG, enter a filename such as logo.png, and click Export.

Inkscape’s command line can export a page with:

inkscape input.eps --export-filename=output.png --export-dpi=300

Use --export-area-drawing instead of the default page area when the output should contain only the artwork:

Using desktop design software

In Adobe Illustrator, open the EPS, then choose File → Export → Export As, select PNG, set the resolution and background option, and export. Illustrator is preferable when the EPS contains effects, clipping masks, or fonts that need inspection before rendering.

Adobe Photoshop opens an EPS through a rasterization dialog. Set the required pixel dimensions or resolution, choose the desired color mode and background, and open the file; then save it with File → Save a Copy or File → Export → Export As and select PNG. Photoshop does not preserve the EPS’s editable vector paths after rasterization.

Quality and compatibility limits

Conversion permanently renders the artwork into pixels. The PNG does not retain editable vector paths, layers, or the original text objects, so keep the EPS for later resizing or design changes.

Choose pixel dimensions directly when possible. A 4-inch-wide image exported at 300 DPI should be about 1200 pixels wide, calculated as 4 × 300. DPI metadata alone does not add detail; increasing the pixel dimensions creates a larger raster but cannot restore detail absent from embedded images.

PostScript does not provide the same native transparency model as modern design formats. An EPS may contain a white background object, flattened effects, or artwork that relies on a page-colored background, so inspect the exported PNG before publishing. If transparency is required, remove background objects and select a transparent background in the exporting application when supported.

Missing fonts can alter line breaks, spacing, and glyph shapes during rendering. Embedded fonts are more reliable; converting text to outlines in the source application prevents font substitution but removes text editability. Color profiles, spot colors, overprinting, and blend effects may also render differently between applications, so verify the PNG at its final size and in the software or device where it will be used.
