Convert EDDX to PNG

Documents and web systems often accept PNG but cannot open EdrawMax project files, so an EDDX diagram must be rendered before sharing or embedding. The conversion keeps the visible design but removes its editable diagram structure.

What the EDDX format is

EDDX is the native project format used by Wondershare EdrawMax for flowcharts, organization charts, network diagrams, floor plans, mind maps, and other structured graphics. It stores diagram objects such as shapes, connectors, text, layers, and page settings, so it is intended for editing in EdrawMax rather than for general image viewing.

What the PNG format is

PNG is a lossless raster image format supported by web browsers, office applications, image editors, and most operating systems. It preserves diagram text and line detail better than lossy JPEG at the same dimensions and can include an alpha channel for a transparent background. PNG is suitable for presentations, documentation, email, web pages, and applications that accept images but do not support EDDX.

How to convert an EDDX file

Using EdrawMax desktop

1. Open EdrawMax and choose File → Open, then select the .eddx file.
2. Check the page size, orientation, visible layers, guides, and grid settings. Hide guides or grids if they should not appear in the image.
3. Choose File → Export & Send → Graphics and select PNG. Menu names can differ between EdrawMax releases; use the PNG option under Export if the path has changed.
4. Select the page or pages to export and set the available resolution, scale, background, and transparency options. Use a higher scale when the diagram contains small labels.
5. Choose a destination and save the result, for example as network-diagram.png.

PNG is normally a single-page image format. For a multi-page EDDX document, export each page as a separate PNG unless the software provides a specific contact-sheet or combined-image option.

Using EdrawMax Online

EdrawMax Online can be used when the current service and account support importing or opening the EDDX file. Upload or open the file, then use the available File → Export or Download → PNG command and select the required page and image settings. Do not upload confidential diagrams unless the service’s storage, retention, and access terms comply with your organization’s policy.

Using a third-party online converter

EDDX is a proprietary application format and is not consistently supported by general conversion services. Use an online converter only when its current input list explicitly accepts .eddx, and check its privacy and file-retention terms first. If it does not list EDDX, open the file in EdrawMax and export locally; renaming .eddx to .png changes only the filename and does not convert the content.

Quality and compatibility limits

PNG contains rendered pixels, not editable diagram objects. A PNG viewer cannot edit connectors, recover hidden layers, select individual shapes, or search the diagram as structured text. Keep the original .eddx file when future editing or revision is required.

Because PNG is raster-based, enlarging a low-resolution export makes text and lines appear soft. Export at the intended display dimensions or around twice those dimensions for high-density screens. Large page sizes and high export scales can create files that exceed upload, browser, or office-application limits.

Transparency is useful when the PNG will be placed over another background, but some document, presentation, and printing workflows replace transparent areas with white. Use an opaque background when consistent printed or cross-application appearance matters.
