How to convert eddx to jpeg file

Teams often export an EdrawMax diagram as JPEG when an email recipient, document editor, presentation tool, or upload portal cannot open an editable .eddx file. The JPEG copy can be viewed almost anywhere, but it is no longer an editable diagram.

EDDX and JPEG formats

EDDX is an editable diagram document format used by EdrawMax from EdrawSoft. An .eddx file can contain vector shapes, text, connectors, themes, images, hyperlinks, and multiple diagram pages, depending on the document.

JPEG, saved as .jpg or .jpeg, is a compressed raster-image format supported by browsers, office software, phones, email clients, and image editors. It stores a fixed grid of pixels rather than diagram objects, so recipients can view the exported diagram without EdrawMax.

JPEG compression usually produces compact files, especially for diagrams containing photos, shadows, or gradients. For flowcharts, network diagrams, and other graphics with small text and sharp lines, PNG is usually the better export format: JPEG can blur lettering and create compression artifacts around colored edges.

Export with EdrawMax

  1. Open the .eddx file in the desktop version of EdrawMax.
  2. Review each page and confirm that fonts, linked images, symbols, and connectors display correctly.
  3. Choose File → Export → Graphics. Some releases place the command under File → Export & Send.
  4. Select JPEG or JPG, choose the destination folder, and select the page or pages to export.
  5. Set the available image size, resolution, or JPEG quality options. Use a larger pixel size for printing, projection, or later cropping.
  6. Open the exported .jpg at 100% zoom and check the smallest labels, line ends, and connector arrows.

EdrawMax exports multi-page documents as separate image files because JPEG cannot contain a browsable set of pages in one image. Use a consistent filename sequence, such as network-diagram-01.jpg and network-diagram-02.jpg, when sending several pages.

Online conversion option

EdrawMax Online is the preferable browser-based option because it is designed to open EdrawMax documents. Upload the EDDX file, open it in the editor, and use its export command to select JPEG. Availability and export controls can vary by account type and EDDX version.

Do not upload confidential diagrams, customer information, floor plans, or network layouts to any online converter unless the service is approved by the organization handling that data. Generic image converters often cannot read EDDX because it is an application document, not a bitmap image.

Quality and compatibility limits

JPEG quality controls compression damage but does not add detail. Export at sufficient pixel dimensions before increasing JPEG quality; a low-resolution export remains soft when enlarged.

JPEG does not support transparency. If the diagram has a transparent page background, set a white or other solid page background before export when the image will be placed in a document or printed.

Keep the original .eddx file for revisions. The JPEG cannot retain editable shapes, layers, connectors, hyperlinks, page structure, or other EdrawMax document data.

Do not rename diagram.eddx to diagram.jpg. Renaming changes only the filename extension and does not convert the underlying data into an image.
