What the SKETCH format is

.sketch is Sketch’s native project format for interface and digital-product design. It is primarily used with the Sketch app on macOS and stores editable artboards, layers, vector shapes, text, symbols, styles, bitmap assets, and design metadata rather than one finished picture. Using Sketch on macOS

1. Open the .sketch file in Sketch.
2. Select an artboard, group, layer, or slice in the canvas or Layers list.
3. In the Inspector, click Make Exportable. In some Sketch versions, an Export control is shown instead.
4. Choose PNG, then select an export scale such as 1x, 2x, or 3x.
5. Click Export, choose a destination, and save the PNG.

Select multiple artboards or exportable layers before configuring the settings to create separate PNG files for each selection. Sketch must have access to the fonts and linked bitmap assets used by the project. Inspect the PNG at 100% size for incorrect fonts, clipped layers, missing assets, and unexpected backgrounds.

PNG is lossless, but large artboards and photographic content can produce large files. PNG is generally preferable for transparency and crisp interface graphics; opaque photographs are often smaller as JPEG, although JPEG uses lossy compression and does not preserve transparency.
