What the GGB format is

GGB is GeoGebra’s native worksheet format. It stores interactive mathematical content, including points, functions, geometric constructions, equations, sliders, spreadsheet cells, and view settings, rather than one static picture.

GeoGebra Classic and GeoGebra Calculator Suite can create and open GGB files. Students, teachers, and mathematicians use them for saved constructions, classroom worksheets, and editable mathematical models. A GGB file remains editable in GeoGebra; exporting it to PNG removes its interactivity.

What the PNG format is

PNG is a lossless raster image format supported by web browsers, office applications, presentation software, and image editors. It preserves colored lines, labels, and transparent backgrounds more effectively than JPEG for most mathematical diagrams.

A PNG is a fixed rendering of a selected GeoGebra view. It does not retain sliders, hidden objects, construction steps, coordinates, or equations as editable mathematical objects.

How to export GGB as PNG

GeoGebra is the most reliable converter because it renders the worksheet with the application that understands its objects and settings.

1. Open GeoGebra Classic on Windows, macOS, Linux, or in a supported web browser.
2. Open the file with File → Open and select worksheet.ggb.
3. Select the required view, such as Graphics or 3D Graphics. Resize the view and adjust the zoom so that all required objects are visible.
4. Set the axes, grid, labels, colors, and object visibility before exporting. Objects outside the visible view or currently hidden are not included.
5. Choose File → Export → PNG Image. Depending on the GeoGebra version, you can also right-click the Graphics View and choose Export as Image.
6. Set the pixel dimensions or export scale, enable a transparent background if that option is available, and save the result as worksheet.png.

The GeoGebra web app is a suitable online option: open the GGB file there and use its file or export menu to produce a PNG. It avoids installing software, but desktop GeoGebra is preferable for repeated exports, large worksheets, or confidential files.

Do not assume that a general file-conversion website supports GGB correctly. Use a third-party online service only if it explicitly accepts GGB and produces PNG, and check its privacy, file-retention, and upload-size policies before submitting a worksheet. A service that does not understand GeoGebra may reject the file or render only an incomplete view.

Quality and compatibility limits

PNG export is raster-based. Increase the export scale or pixel dimensions when the image will be printed or enlarged; enlarging a small PNG later cannot restore missing detail. Thin lines and small labels should be checked at the intended display or print size.

The export contains only the selected GeoGebra view. If the worksheet uses separate Graphics, Graphics 2, or 3D Graphics views, export each required view separately. Keep the original .ggb file when later editing, animation, construction inspection, or coordinate analysis may be required.
