Many recipients, websites, phones, and office applications cannot open a CorelDRAW file, so a CDR file is often converted to JPEG for sharing, previews, documents, or smaller attachments. JPEG also provides a single broadly supported image instead of an editable design file.

What the CDR format is

CDR is the native drawing format of CorelDRAW. It can store vector paths, text, shapes, fills, outlines, layers, effects, page layouts, and embedded or linked bitmap images. CorelDRAW users create CDR files for logos, illustrations, signs, brochures, packaging, and other page-based designs; print shops and graphic designers commonly exchange them as editable source files.

CDR is a proprietary format with version-dependent compatibility. Newer files may not open correctly in older CorelDRAW releases, and third-party applications do not always interpret every effect, font, color setting, or layout feature.

What the JPEG format is

JPEG, usually saved with the .jpg or .jpeg extension, is a compressed raster-image format supported by web browsers, phones, office software, and most image viewers. It produces relatively small files for previews, email, websites, and general-purpose sharing.

Unlike CDR, JPEG stores pixels rather than editable vector objects. It does not retain layers, text editability, CorelDRAW effects, or transparency; transparent areas normally become a solid background during export. JPEG compression can reduce file size but may add artifacts around text and sharp edges.

How to convert CDR to JPEG

Using CorelDRAW

1. Open the CDR file in CorelDRAW and check that fonts, linked images, page size, and colors render correctly.
2. For a complete page, leave the page active. To export only particular artwork, select those objects and enable Selected only in the export dialog when available.
3. Choose File → Export, select JPG - JPEG Bitmaps as the file type, specify a filename, and choose Export.
4. Set the output pixel dimensions or resolution. Around 150–200 dpi is generally sufficient for screen use; approximately 300 dpi at the final print size is appropriate for many print jobs. The required pixel dimensions depend on the intended display or print size.
5. Choose RGB for screens and general sharing. Use CMYK only when the receiving print workflow specifically requires it, because some viewers and applications handle CMYK JPEG files inconsistently.
6. Set JPEG quality as high as practical, confirm the background and anti-aliasing settings, and save the export.

A JPEG contains one raster image. If the CDR has multiple pages, export each page separately, unless the installed CorelDRAW version offers a suitable batch-export command.
