How to convert ppt to jpeg file

A slide may need to be uploaded to a website, shared with someone without presentation software, or inserted into a document that accepts images only. Converting the presentation produces a separate JPEG image for each slide, not one editable presentation file.

What the PPT format is

PPT is the binary presentation format used by Microsoft PowerPoint 97–2003. It can contain slide layouts, text, images, charts, tables, animations, audio, video, hyperlinks, and speaker notes. PowerPoint creates and opens .ppt files; LibreOffice Impress and other presentation applications can also open many of them. Newer PowerPoint versions normally use .pptx, so .ppt files are common in older business presentations, archived teaching materials, and legacy email attachments.

What the JPEG format is

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), usually identified by .jpg or .jpeg, is a compressed raster-image format. It is widely supported by web browsers, phones, operating systems, document applications, and image-upload systems. Its lossy compression usually creates smaller files than uncompressed images, but it can soften text and produce artifacts around lines, logos, and other sharp edges.

The conversion renders each slide as a static image. JPEG does not preserve editable text, slide objects, animations, transitions, hyperlinks, audio, video, notes, or selectable graphics. A three-slide presentation normally becomes files such as Slide1.jpg, Slide2.jpg, and Slide3.jpg.

Convert with Microsoft PowerPoint

  1. Open the .ppt file in PowerPoint.
  2. Choose File → Save As or File → Export.
  3. Select JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg) as the output type.
  4. Choose a destination and select Save or Export.
  5. When prompted, choose Every Slide to export the whole presentation or Just This One for the selected slide.

PowerPoint generally creates a folder containing one JPEG per slide, often using the presentation name for the folder. If PowerPoint reports compatibility issues with the older format, inspect the presentation before exporting; missing fonts, linked media, and unsupported objects can affect the rendered images.

Convert with other software

LibreOffice Impress can open many PPT files. Open the file, select a slide, then use File → Export and choose JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group. Depending on the LibreOffice version, multi-slide export may be available under File → Export as → Export as Images; otherwise, export the slides individually. The available JPEG quality and resolution controls vary by version.

For a conversion without installing software, upload the file to 101convert.com, choose JPEG as the output format, start the conversion, and download the generated images. Do not upload confidential or regulated presentations unless the service's current privacy and retention terms are acceptable.

Quality and compatibility limits

  • Review the output: Open the images at 100% size and check small text, tables, diagrams, logos, fonts, transparency, and embedded media.
  • Resolution affects readability: A slide exported at low resolution may look acceptable on screen but become blurry when printed or enlarged. Use the highest resolution or quality option provided by the selected converter.
  • JPEG is not ideal for line art: PNG usually preserves text, diagrams, and sharp edges more cleanly, although PNG files are often larger. Use PNG when the destination accepts it and JPEG is not required.
  • Repeated saving reduces quality: JPEG compression is lossy, so avoid repeatedly opening and resaving the exported files.
  • Use PDF for document fidelity: PDF is generally more suitable when multiple slides, selectable text, vector graphics, links, or print layout must be retained.
