Free online DJVU to JPEG converter

Many image editors, websites, phones, and document systems accept JPEG but not DJVU. Converting a scanned page creates a broadly compatible image for sharing, previewing, embedding, or basic editing.

What the DJVU format is

DJVU (usually .djvu or .djv) is a document format designed for scanned books, newspapers, manuals, and archival pages. Its compression separates or optimizes text, line art, and photographic content, keeping page-based documents relatively small while retaining readable detail.

DJVU files are used in digital libraries, scanned public-domain books, old technical documentation, and archival workflows. A multipage file can also contain searchable OCR text, bookmarks, hyperlinks, and page-resolution information, depending on how it was created.

What the JPEG format is

JPEG is a raster-image format intended mainly for photographs and scanned images. Files normally use the .jpg or .jpeg extension and open in web browsers, phones, office applications, image editors, and most operating systems without a specialized document viewer.

JPEG is useful when a destination accepts only image files or when you need to upload, embed, crop, annotate, or edit an individual page. Its lossy compression produces compact files, but strong compression and repeated resaving can create block artifacts, blurred character edges, and damage to fine lines.

How to convert DJVU to JPEG

2. Upload the .djvu or .djv file.
3. Select JPEG as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the resulting image files. A multipage DJVU normally produces one JPEG for each page, usually with numbered filenames.

Convert with DjVuLibre

DjVuLibre is an open-source desktop toolkit available for major operating systems. Its ddjvu utility renders a DJVU page to an image:

ddjvu -format=jpeg -quality=90 -page=1 book.djvu page-001.jpg

Replace book.djvu with the input filename and change -page=1 for another page. For a multipage document, run the command once per page and use different output names such as page-001.jpg, page-002.jpg, and page-003.jpg. Page selection is one-based.

To control the rendered dimensions, specify a target width or height. For example, this sets the width to approximately 2000 pixels while preserving the page proportions:

ddjvu -format=jpeg -quality=90 -size=2000x book.djvu page-001.jpg

Use a larger render size when the page contains small printed text, but do not expect enlargement to restore detail absent from the original scan.

Convert with a graphical viewer

Open the file in DjView or another DJVU-capable viewer, select a page, and choose File → Export or File → Save as. Select JPEG and set the quality, resolution, or output dimensions if the viewer provides those controls. Some viewers export only the displayed page, so repeat the operation for each page when batch export is unavailable.

Quality and compatibility limitations

The conversion renders each page as pixels. It does not carry over DJVU's OCR layer, selectable text, bookmarks, hyperlinks, document structure, or other page metadata. Keep the original DJVU when search, text extraction, navigation, or archival fidelity is required.

A JPEG quality setting around 90–95 is usually appropriate for text-heavy scans; lower settings reduce file size but can make letters and line drawings less legible. Render at a sufficient size for the intended use, typically around 200–300 dpi for readable printed pages when the source contains that detail. JPEG is unsuitable for repeated editing and saving because every lossy save can add further artifacts.

Black-and-white line art, diagrams, and pages requiring lossless preservation may look cleaner as PNG or TIFF, although JPEG is usually more widely accepted. An ordinary JPEG cannot contain multiple pages, so a multipage DJVU must become separate JPEG files unless the destination supports another multipage format.
