Free online FH10 to JPEG converter

Older websites, image viewers, office applications, and publishing systems may not accept FreeHand drawings, so an FH10 file often needs conversion for sharing or placement in documents. JPEG provides a widely supported, smaller raster copy, but the conversion removes the original vector editability.

What the FH10 format is

FH10 is the native document format of Macromedia FreeHand 10, a vector-graphics application used for logos, illustrations, diagrams, advertising, and print production. An FH10 file can contain paths, text, fills, strokes, placed graphics, multiple pages, and other editable design elements.

Macromedia FreeHand 10 and later FreeHand versions, including FreeHand MX, can generally open FH10 files. Correct rendering may still require the original fonts and linked images. Modern Adobe Illustrator versions do not reliably open FH10 files directly; Adobe's old FreeHand-import script was intended for legacy Illustrator CS4/CS5 workflows and is not a dependable current solution.

What JPEG provides

JPEG is a compressed raster format supported by browsers, phones, image viewers, office software, and most publishing systems. It is suitable for previews, email attachments, web images, and artwork containing continuous-tone shading.

JPEG does not preserve vector paths, layers, editable text, multiple-page structure, or transparency. Its lossy compression can produce ringing and block artifacts around small text, thin lines, and sharp geometric edges; PNG or PDF is usually better for diagrams and text-heavy artwork.

How to convert an FH10 file

Using FreeHand:

1. Copy the original .fh10 file so the source remains unchanged.
2. Open the copy in Macromedia FreeHand 10 or FreeHand MX.
3. Check every page, the artwork bounds, fonts, linked graphics, colors, and clipping. Replace missing fonts or relink unavailable graphics before exporting.
4. Choose File → Export, select JPEG or JPG, and specify the output filename.
5. Select the required page or artwork area. Export pages separately when the document contains multiple pages and the export dialog does not provide a page-range option.
6. Set the rasterization resolution or pixel dimensions and JPEG quality. About 150 dpi is usually sufficient for screen use; about 300 dpi is a practical starting point for ordinary print output. Use the highest available quality when small text or line art must remain readable.
7. Open the resulting .jpg in an image viewer and check cropping, scaling, colors, text, and fine details.

Quality and compatibility limits

Rasterization fixes the artwork at the selected pixel dimensions; enlarging the JPEG later cannot restore vector sharpness. Export at the final required size, or larger when the image may be cropped, and avoid repeated JPEG re-saving because each lossy save can add artifacts.

JPEG has no transparency channel. Transparent or unpainted areas are normally rendered against a solid background, often white. Use PNG when transparency or sharper flat-color edges are required.

Missing fonts, unavailable linked images, color-profile conversion, spot colors, overprint settings, and unsupported FreeHand effects can change the output. Preserve the original FH10 file and, when future editing or high-quality printing is possible, retain a PDF or another editable source as well.
