Free online FH10 to SVG converter

A legacy FreeHand drawing may need SVG when it must be displayed in a browser, edited in current vector software, shared, or archived without depending on discontinued FreeHand. SVG preserves scalable artwork in a format supported by modern design tools and web browsers.

What the FH10 format is

FH10 is the native document format associated with Macromedia FreeHand 10, a vector illustration and page-layout application used by graphic designers and print-production teams. It can contain paths, fills, strokes, text, gradients, layers, placed images, and page-layout elements used in logos, advertising artwork, illustrations, and print documents.

FH10 files are now mainly found in legacy design archives and old Windows or Mac projects. FreeHand is discontinued and the format is proprietary, so changing .fh10 to .svg does not perform a conversion.

What the SVG format is

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is an XML-based vector format supported by web browsers and applications such as Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, and CorelDRAW. Paths, shapes, and text can scale without the pixelation produced by raster images, making SVG suitable for logos, icons, diagrams, web graphics, and vector interchange.

An SVG is normally a single canvas, while a FreeHand document may contain page-layout features or multiple pages. SVG can also contain embedded raster images and editable text, but those features may behave differently across applications.

How to convert the file

Using 101convert.com: Upload the .fh10 file, choose SVG as the output format, start the conversion, and download the resulting file. This option requires no software installation. Open the downloaded SVG in a browser and a vector editor to check its appearance.

Using compatible FreeHand: If you have Macromedia FreeHand 10 or a later compatible release such as FreeHand MX, use the original application when possible:

1. Make a backup of the original .fh10 file and collect any linked images and required fonts.
2. Open the file in FreeHand and check page size, visible layers, clipping paths, linked artwork, and text layout.
3. Choose File → Export.

FreeHand 10 may not expose SVG export in every installation or document condition. If its export list lacks SVG, a later compatible FreeHand release may be required. Modern Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape are not guaranteed native FH10 readers, so use them only after the file has been opened and resaved by compatible FreeHand or another confirmed importer.

Quality and compatibility limits

• Basic paths, fills, and strokes generally transfer more reliably than blends, mesh effects, transparency, masks, and complex clipping paths.
• Missing fonts can change character spacing, line breaks, and object positions. Convert text to outlines before exporting when visual fidelity matters more than future text editing; outlined text avoids font substitution but creates more paths.
• Placed bitmap images may be embedded, linked, or omitted depending on the exporter. Check the SVG for image references before moving or publishing it.
• A conversion may export only the active page, combine pages, or create separate SVG files. Confirm the page count and canvas dimensions after conversion.
• SVG export is not fully reversible. Keep the original FH10 file, fonts, and linked assets for future editing or archival recovery.
