5. Verify the result by opening the JPEG and checking that brightness, contrast, and color still look acceptable.

Notes on quality and limitations

EXR to JPEG is a lossy conversion. JPEG cannot preserve EXR’s HDR range, 16-bit or 32-bit precision, or extra channels such as alpha, depth, or render passes. If the EXR contains transparency, that transparency will usually be lost because standard JPEG does not support alpha.

Because of the dynamic-range difference, the main challenge is not the file format itself but the appearance of the converted image. An EXR that looks correct in a compositing application may appear too dark, too bright, or clipped if exported without tone mapping. For archival or editing purposes, keep the original EXR and use JPEG only for sharing, previews, or web delivery.
