How to convert raf to jpeg file

Many phones, browsers, messaging services, and office applications do not display Fujifilm RAF files reliably, while JPEG works on almost every platform. Converting creates smaller files for sharing and publishing, but removes the RAW data needed for extensive later adjustments.

What the RAF format is

RAF is Fujifilm's proprietary RAW format, used by Fujifilm X-series and some FinePix cameras. It stores largely unrendered sensor data with camera metadata, allowing compatible software to adjust exposure, white balance, highlights, color, cropping, and other settings before producing a viewable image. RAF files are typically copied from a Fujifilm camera or memory card and may not open in basic image viewers.

What the JPEG format is

JPEG is a processed, raster image format that uses lossy compression. Browsers, operating systems, printers, messaging applications, and most image editors support it. JPEG files are much smaller than RAF files and are suitable for sharing, email, websites, and routine viewing. A normal JPEG is an 8-bit-per-channel rendered image, so it does not preserve the full exposure and color-adjustment latitude of the RAF source.

How to convert RAF to JPEG online

  1. Open the RAF-to-JPEG converter on 101convert.com. It can be used free without installing software.
  2. Select or drop one or more .RAF files into the upload area.
  3. Choose JPEG or .JPG as the output format and start the conversion.
  4. Download the resulting JPEG files, then check their orientation, colors, dimensions, and filenames before deleting the RAF originals.

Use a desktop RAW processor instead when you need exposure recovery, a specific Fujifilm film simulation, lens corrections, color-profile control, resizing, or repeatable batch-export settings.

How to convert RAF files with desktop software

Fujifilm X RAW Studio can process RAF files through a compatible Fujifilm camera connected by USB; the camera performs the RAW rendering. Open the file, adjust the available settings such as exposure, white balance, and film simulation, then use the program's JPEG save or export command to choose a destination and quality.

Adobe Lightroom, Capture One, darktable, and RawTherapee can also develop supported RAF files and export JPEG copies. The general workflow is:

  1. Import the RAF files into the application.
  2. Adjust exposure, white balance, color, cropping, and lens corrections as required.
  3. Open the export or processing command, select JPEG, and choose the destination folder.
  4. Use the sRGB color profile for general web, phone, and sharing compatibility.
  5. Set the output dimensions and JPEG quality, then start the export.

A quality setting around 85–95 is usually a practical balance between file size and visible compression; the exact result depends on the software and image. Export at full dimensions for archiving or printing, and reduce dimensions only when a smaller file is required.

Quality and compatibility limits

JPEG conversion is effectively one-way: a JPEG cannot restore RAF sensor data, clipped highlights, or the original RAW adjustment range. Keep the RAF files as archival masters and treat exported JPEGs as delivery copies.

The rendered result can differ from the camera's embedded preview if the software does not reproduce Fujifilm film simulations, white-balance interpretation, lens corrections, or camera-specific color profiles. Fujifilm X RAW Studio or another Fujifilm-aware RAW processor may produce a closer camera-style rendering. Repeatedly opening and resaving a JPEG applies additional lossy compression, so make edits from the RAF or save a high-quality master rather than repeatedly recompressing the same JPEG.
