Target format

DOC is the classic Microsoft Word document format used by Microsoft Word and many compatible editors. It is widely supported for editable documents and is useful when you want to open web content in a word processor for editing, annotation, or reformatting. Compared with MHTML, DOC is better suited for text editing and document workflows, though it is less ideal for preserving exact browser rendering.

Typical uses include editable reports, internal documentation, and documents that need to be opened in older versions of Word or compatible office suites.

How to perform the conversion

The best practical method is to open the MHTML file in a word processor that can interpret web content, then save it as DOC. Microsoft Word is usually the most reliable choice for this conversion.

1. Open Microsoft Word.
2. Use File → Open and select the .mhtml or .mht file.
3. Wait for Word to import the archived web page.
4. Use File → Save As.
5. Choose Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc) as the file type.
6. Save the file with a .doc extension.

If you do not have Microsoft Word, some office suites such as LibreOffice may open MHTML files, but results can vary and the import may not preserve the page layout as well. After opening, use File → Save As and select .doc if the application supports that export format.

Notes on quality and limitations

Layout fidelity is the main limitation in this conversion. MHTML is designed to preserve a web page as rendered in a browser, while DOC is a word-processing format. Complex web layouts, embedded scripts, responsive design, and browser-specific styling may not convert cleanly.

Images and basic formatting usually transfer reasonably well, but interactive elements, dynamic content, and advanced CSS often do not. If the source page is heavily styled or script-driven, the resulting DOC file may need manual cleanup.

For best results, use the original MHTML file rather than a renamed web page folder, and verify the output in Microsoft Word or another DOC-compatible editor after conversion.
