Can exe be converted to doc?

Usually, no. There is no direct, legitimate EXE-to-DOC conversion because an EXE is normally a program, not a Word document. If you need a DOC file, the real task is usually to extract content from an installer, self-extracting archive, or mislabeled file.

How to recover a doc file from an exe

If the EXE is a self-extracting archive or installer:

1. Open it in a safe environment, such as a virtual machine, if you do not fully trust the file.
2. Use 7-Zip or WinRAR to inspect or extract it. In 7-Zip, right-click the file and choose 7-Zip → Open archive or 7-Zip → Extract to....
3. Look for documents inside the extracted files, such as .txt, .rtf, .html, .doc, or .docx.
4. If you find editable text, open it in Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer and save it as .doc using File → Save As.

If the EXE contains embedded resources or text:

1. Inspect the file with a resource tool such as Resource Hacker.
2. Extract any readable strings, dialogs, or embedded documents.
3. Paste or import the recovered content into Word, then save it as .doc.

If the file is actually a document with the wrong extension:

1. Only rename it if you are sure it was mislabeled and is not a real executable.
2. Try opening it with Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer.
3. If it opens correctly, use File → Save As and choose .doc.

Limitations and safety

A true EXE cannot be faithfully converted to DOC because the formats serve completely different purposes. If the EXE is a program, any “conversion” is really content extraction or reverse engineering, not document conversion. Results depend on whether the file contains readable text or embedded documents.

Be cautious with unknown EXE files: they can be malicious. Scan them with antivirus software and avoid running untrusted executables on your main system.
