Convert FBR to AVI

FlashBack recordings need AVI export when a legacy editor, training platform, industrial player, or other required system cannot open FlashBack’s native files. Exporting from FlashBack is necessary because standard video converters cannot normally decode its recording data.

What FBR files are

.fbr is the proprietary recording format used by Blueberry Software FlashBack, including FlashBack Express and FlashBack Pro. An FBR recording can retain screen capture data, audio, webcam video, cursor movements, annotations, and editable timeline information; it is not usually a conventional video stream.

Open FBR files with FlashBack Player or the FlashBack application that created them. VLC, Windows Media Player, HandBrake, and FFmpeg generally cannot open or convert FlashBack FBR recordings directly.

The .fbr extension is not exclusive to FlashBack. If FlashBack cannot open the file, confirm which application created it before converting it.

What AVI files are

AVI is a Microsoft multimedia container format that can carry video and audio encoded with different codecs, such as uncompressed video, MJPEG, Xvid, or codecs installed in Windows. It remains relevant where older Windows software, video-editing systems, or dedicated playback equipment specifically require AVI.

AVI does not define the codec. Two AVI files can have very different compatibility, quality, and sizes. Uncompressed AVI is large, while compressed AVI requires the receiving system to support the chosen codec.

Export an FBR recording to AVI

1. Install FlashBack Player or FlashBack Pro from Blueberry Software. Use a current version that can open the recording; older FBR files may require an older compatible FlashBack release.
2. Open the recording using File → Open, then verify audio, webcam footage, cursor effects, and annotations before rendering.
3. Use FlashBack Pro to trim clips, remove unwanted sections, or change annotation visibility if editing is required.
4. Select the application’s File → Export or Export Movie command. The precise menu label varies by FlashBack version.
5. Select AVI, choose the required video codec and destination folder, then export the movie.
6. Import or play the exported .avi in the destination software before deleting the original .fbr file.

If AVI is not listed, update FlashBack or check the export formats available in that edition. AVI choices can also depend on codecs installed on the Windows computer. FlashBack Player is suitable for playback and export where supported; FlashBack Pro is the better option when the recording needs timeline edits before export.

Codec and quality considerations

Ask the receiving system for its exact AVI requirements, including video codec, frame size, frame rate, audio codec, and audio sample rate. Selecting an unsupported codec can cause an AVI to fail to import, display a black image, or play without audio.

For further editing, export a high-quality or lossless AVI if the target editor supports it. Screen recordings contain sharp text and thin interface lines, which degrade quickly after repeated lossy encoding. Keep the original FBR file because AVI is a flattened render and does not retain editable FlashBack tracks or objects.

If the destination accepts it, H.264 MP4 is usually smaller and more broadly playable than AVI. Use AVI when the receiving application explicitly requires AVI or a particular AVI codec.

Online converter limitations

Reputable online converters such as CloudConvert and Convertio are useful for converting standard video files after export, but they do not provide a dependable route for proprietary FlashBack FBR recordings. Do not upload confidential screen captures to a conversion site, and avoid services that claim FBR support without specifically identifying Blueberry FlashBack.
