Notes on quality, compatibility, or limitations

W64 to WAV conversion is usually lossless if the source audio is already uncompressed PCM and you keep the same sample rate, bit depth, and channel count. However, if you choose a different bit depth or export settings, the file may be re-quantized, which can reduce fidelity.

The main limitation is the 4 GB size limit of standard WAV files. If the W64 source is larger than that, the conversion may fail or require splitting the audio into smaller files. In that case, keep the file in W64 or use another large-file-capable format if compatibility is not required.

Some older software and hardware may not support W64 directly, which is why converting to WAV is often useful. On the other hand, if the WAV file becomes too large, some legacy players may also have trouble opening it, even though the format itself is widely supported.
