Free online NBS to WAV converter

Note Block Studio songs are stored as .nbs notation rather than playable audio, so media players, editors, and devices that require PCM sound cannot use them directly. Converting the song to .wav renders its notes and instruments into an audio file for editing, sharing, or archiving.

What the NBS format is

.nbs is the native song format used by Minecraft Note Block Studio and compatible applications for arranging Minecraft note-block music. It stores notes, timing, layers, instruments, tempo, and song metadata; it does not contain a conventional audio stream.

You usually encounter NBS files when downloading Minecraft note-block songs or exporting compositions from Note Block Studio. A normal audio player cannot open them because the file must first be interpreted by a note-block synthesizer or converted to another format.

What the WAV format is

.wav is a container commonly used for uncompressed PCM audio. It is supported by most audio editors, video applications, operating systems, and hardware players.

WAV preserves the rendered waveform without the additional lossy compression used by MP3 or AAC, making it suitable for editing and further production. The trade-off is larger file size. WAV contains the sound produced during rendering, not the editable note and layer structure stored in the NBS file.

How to convert NBS to WAV

Using the online converter

1. Open 101convert.com, the built-in free online conversion service.
2. Upload the .nbs file.
3. Choose WAV as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the resulting WAV file and test it in an audio player or editor.

This method is suitable when you need a rendered audio file and do not need to change individual notes or instruments. Do not rename .nbs to .wav; changing the extension does not convert the contents.

Using desktop software

1. Open the song in Note Block Studio or Open Note Block Studio and confirm that it plays correctly.
2. Use File → Export → MIDI if the application provides MIDI export, saving a file such as song.mid.
3. Open the MIDI file in MuseScore or another MIDI-capable sequencer.
4. Select a suitable playback sound set, then use File → Export and choose WAV, or render the project to song.wav.

MIDI is an intermediate instruction format, not an audio file. The MIDI renderer determines the instruments and timbre, so the WAV may sound different from playback in Minecraft or Note Block Studio.

If exact Note Block Studio playback is required and the program has no direct WAV export, play the song in the application and capture its output with an audio recorder, selecting the system or application output rather than a microphone. Trim silence and export the recording as WAV in an editor such as Audacity.

Quality and compatibility

The conversion cannot recover audio detail that was never present in the NBS file. NBS stores musical events, so the final sound depends on the selected Minecraft instrument samples, tempo interpretation, note range, reverb, and rendering software.

For editing, use PCM WAV at the renderer's native sample rate, commonly 44.1 or 48 kHz, with 16-bit or 24-bit depth. Converting a MIDI-rendered file to WAV does not make it lossless relative to the original Minecraft playback; it only stores that particular rendering without additional lossy compression.

Very large songs or songs using custom instruments may not render identically in every converter. Check the beginning, ending, tempo changes, percussion, and notes outside the standard Minecraft note-block range after conversion.
