How to perform the conversion

The most reliable way to convert W64 to M4R is to use a desktop audio editor or a command-line tool that can read W64 and encode AAC audio. Because M4R is essentially an AAC/M4A ringtone file, the source audio usually needs to be trimmed to a short segment before conversion.

1. Open the W64 file in an audio editor such as Audacity, Adobe Audition, or another editor that supports Wave64.

Notes on quality and compatibility

W64 is lossless, while M4R is usually lossy AAC, so some audio quality reduction is expected during conversion. For ringtone use, this is usually acceptable, but it is not ideal for archival purposes.

Compatibility depends on two things: whether your source tool can read W64, and whether the target device or workflow accepts M4R. Apple devices generally expect short ringtone clips, so very long files may not work as intended.
