Free online GLB to DXF converter

CAD, CAM, laser-cutting, and drafting applications often accept DXF but cannot open a GLB asset from a web viewer, game engine, or 3D configurator. The resulting DXF is usually a faceted mesh reference; it does not automatically become an editable CAD solid or a ready-to-cut 2D profile.

GLB and DXF formats

GLB is the binary, single-file form of glTF 2.0 (GL Transmission Format). It packages 3D mesh geometry with scene data such as materials, embedded textures, object hierarchy, cameras, skins, and animations; some features, including lights, depend on glTF extensions.

GLB is used by Blender, game engines, three.js applications, WebXR viewers, product configurators, scanning workflows, and other real-time 3D systems. glTF defines linear distances in meters, although the source model may have been created at an incorrect or arbitrary real-world scale.

DXF is Autodesk's Drawing Exchange Format. AutoCAD and many CAD, surveying, fabrication, and CAM applications can read it. A DXF can store 2D entities such as lines, polylines, arcs, text, dimensions, and hatches, plus 3D geometry including 3DFACE entities, polyface meshes, and mesh objects.

DXF is useful for exchanging selectable CAD geometry, often organized by layers, with software that does not support glTF. It is not a replacement for STEP, IGES, or a native CAD file when the recipient requires parametric features, NURBS surfaces, or solid bodies.

Convert the file

1. On 101convert.com, upload the .glb file, choose DXF as the output format, start the conversion, and download the .dxf result. The conversion can be performed free of charge without installing software.
2. Open the DXF in the destination CAD or CAM application before using or sharing it. Confirm that mesh entities are visible, required objects are present, and a known dimension has the expected size.
3. Keep the original .glb. Regenerating a DXF from the source is usually preferable to editing a dense triangulated mesh export.

For local preparation or inspection, use Blender. Import the model with File → Import → glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf). Remove unwanted objects, apply the intended object scale, and verify the scene units. Blender's DXF export capability may require a separate DXF export extension compatible with the installed Blender version; after enabling it, export through its File → Export → AutoCAD DXF (.dxf) entry. Export only selected mesh objects when that option is available.

2D fabrication output

A 3D mesh DXF is generally unsuitable as direct input for laser cutting, routing, or sheet-metal workflows. Those processes normally require 2D closed polylines representing deliberate outlines, sections, or orthographic projections.

Create the required projection or section in CAD or Blender, then check the exported contours for duplicate segments, open endpoints, self-intersections, and incorrect scale. Verify layers, units, and contour direction in the receiving CAM application or against the machine vendor's requirements.

Compatibility limits

GLB mesh data is render-oriented and commonly triangulated. DXF output therefore often contains a large number of 3D faces or a polyface mesh, which may produce a much larger file and open slowly in CAD software. Older DXF readers may support 3DFACE or polyface mesh entities more reliably than newer mesh entity types.

Textures, PBR materials, normal maps, transparency, animations, armatures, cameras, and lights do not transfer meaningfully to DXF. Some exporters can retain simple colors or place objects on layers, but DXF viewers will not reproduce the rendered GLB appearance.

Measure a known feature after import. If a model intended to be 1 meter appears as 1 millimeter or 1 inch, correct the scale in the source or export application and create a new DXF. A mesh DXF also remains faceted geometry, not a watertight engineering solid.
