What the FH format is

FH is the native document format of Macromedia FreeHand, a discontinued vector-graphics application that was later owned by Adobe. FreeHand releases commonly used extensions such as .fh5, .fh7, .fh8, .fh9, and .fh11.

An FH document can contain vector paths, fills, strokes, text, gradients, layers, multiple pages, placed bitmap images, and FreeHand-specific effects. AI is suitable for Illustrator editing, print preparation, sign production, cutting workflows, and artwork that must scale without pixelation. The result is not guaranteed to retain FreeHand-only features, and AI compatibility can vary between Illustrator releases.

How to convert an FH file to AI

1. Open the FH-to-AI converter on 101convert.com.
2. Upload the original FreeHand file, retaining its extension, such as .fh8 or .fh11.

4. Download the generated file and open it in Adobe Illustrator.

• Effects: blends, lens effects, brushes, complex transparencies, and clipping masks may be expanded, rasterized, or visually altered.
