Free online SVGZ to PDF converter

Print shops, document-management systems, and PDF-only workflows may reject an .svgz drawing even when they accept PDF. Converting it creates a fixed-page file that is easier to preview, distribute, and print without requiring SVGZ support.

What SVGZ contains

SVGZ is a gzip-compressed SVG file. It stores the same XML-based vector content as .svg, including paths, text, gradients, images, and CSS styling, but usually occupies less storage and bandwidth.

SVGZ is used for compressed web graphics, technical diagrams, GIS exports, icon assets, and archived vector artwork. Programs that support compressed SVG can open drawing.svgz directly; changing the extension to .svg does not decompress the file.

What PDF provides

PDF is a fixed-layout page format that can contain vector paths, selectable text, embedded fonts, raster images, links, and print settings. A PDF made from vector SVG content normally remains sharp when zoomed or printed, unlike a raster export such as PNG.

PDF is better suited to distribution and print submission than SVGZ, but it is usually less suitable for later object-level editing. One SVGZ drawing normally becomes one PDF page; the SVG document page size determines the PDF page dimensions.

Convert the file

Upload the .svgz file to the SVGZ-to-PDF converter on 101convert.com, select PDF output, run the conversion, and download the result. Do not manually rename the file to .svg; the converter should read and decompress the SVGZ source.

For local conversion, Inkscape can open SVGZ directly. Open the file, check that the artwork and page boundary are correct, then select File → Save a Copy, choose Portable Document Format (*.pdf), and save as drawing.pdf.

Before saving, set the required page size in File → Document Properties. Use the option to fit the page to the drawing only when the PDF should crop tightly to the artwork; otherwise define the final paper size and margins explicitly.

For command-line or batch work with Inkscape:

On Unix-like systems, convert all SVGZ files in the current folder with:

Adobe Illustrator can also open compatible SVGZ files and save them as PDF through File → Save As. Use its Adobe PDF presets only when a recipient specifies a required PDF standard or print profile.

Quality and compatibility checks

SVG text can reflow or change appearance when the original fonts are unavailable. Install the required fonts before conversion, or convert text to paths when the PDF does not need editable or searchable text.

SVG features do not map perfectly to PDF. Animation, JavaScript, responsive layout behavior, external web fonts, and interactive SVG controls are not preserved. Filters, blur, masks, clipping combinations, and embedded raster images may be flattened or rasterized, increasing file size or reducing sharpness.

Review the PDF in the viewer and printer workflow that will receive it. If a print provider requires CMYK, spot colors, bleed, crop marks, or a PDF/X standard, confirm those requirements before export: a normal SVGZ-to-PDF conversion does not automatically create a press-ready PDF/X file or reliably convert SVG's usual RGB colors to the printer's required color space.
