How to convert pzfx to pdf file

A GraphPad Prism project must be shared with people who do not have Prism, attached to a report, or preserved as a fixed-layout record. Exporting the required graphs, tables, or layouts as PDF is the reliable way to do this.

What PZFX contains

.pzfx is GraphPad Prism's XML-based project format. Prism uses it to store data tables, analyses, graphs, layouts, formatting, and project settings; it is used mainly in scientific, biomedical, and other research workflows.

A PDF is a page-oriented document format designed to retain text, graphics, fonts, and page layout across operating systems. It can be opened without GraphPad Prism, attached to reports, printed, archived, and reviewed with common PDF software. A PDF is a rendered copy, not an editable Prism project: it does not preserve the underlying data tables, analysis settings, or interactive Prism objects.

Convert PZFX with GraphPad Prism

  1. Install a compatible version of GraphPad Prism and open the .pzfx file. If the file was created by a newer Prism release, update Prism rather than attempting to edit the XML manually.
  2. Open the graph, results table, or layout that must be converted. To place several graphs or tables in one PDF, create or open a Prism layout and arrange the required objects there.
  3. Use File → Export, choose PDF, select the destination and export options, then save the file. Menu labels and available options vary by Prism version.
  4. Open the resulting PDF and check page breaks, legends, axis labels, fonts, symbols, and table columns before distributing it.

Exporting a layout is usually the best option for a multi-page report. If the version of Prism does not offer the required PDF export, use File → Print and select Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows or Save as PDF in the macOS print dialog. Direct export generally gives better control over page size and output than printing.

Online conversion options

General online converters such as CloudConvert and Zamzar should not be treated as reliable PZFX converters: PZFX is a specialized Prism project format and is not consistently supported as an input type. Check the provider's current supported-format list before uploading; renaming .pzfx to .pdf cannot convert the file.

For confidential, unpublished, or regulated research data, keep the conversion in Prism on a local computer. Online PDF services can be useful after export for tasks such as merging, compressing, or rearranging PDFs, but they do not replace Prism's project rendering.

Quality and compatibility limits

  • PDF contains only the items rendered or printed. Export each required worksheet, graph, results page, or layout; converting one graph does not include the rest of the project.
  • Direct Prism PDF export normally retains graph text and drawing objects more cleanly than a screenshot. Print-to-PDF output can differ by operating-system driver and may rasterize some content.
  • Large tables may be split across pages, and wide tables or layouts may be scaled. Set the page size, orientation, and layout dimensions in Prism before exporting.
  • Fonts, missing characters, transparency, gradients, and imported images can change appearance on another computer. Embed or use commonly available fonts where Prism and the PDF workflow permit it.
  • Keep the original .pzfx alongside the PDF when the data or analyses may need to be inspected or rerun. The PDF alone cannot recover Prism's editable project structure.
