Free online SVG to EPS converter

A print shop, legacy publishing application, or cutting workflow may require EPS instead of the supplied SVG. Conversion keeps vector paths scalable, but SVG effects, fonts, transparency, and linked resources may need adjustment for reliable EPS output.

What the SVG format is

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is an XML-based vector format used for logos, icons, diagrams, maps, illustrations, and responsive web graphics. Browsers display SVG directly, while applications such as Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Figma, and Affinity Designer can create or edit it. An SVG can contain paths, text, gradients, masks, filters, embedded raster images, and references to external fonts, stylesheets, or images.

What the EPS format is

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a PostScript-based format for placing static artwork in print and publishing documents. Older versions of Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, QuarkXPress, print-production software, and some RIP workflows support it.

EPS preserves vector paths, so path-based artwork can be enlarged without pixelation. It is useful when the receiving application or printer specifically requires EPS, but it has weaker support than SVG or PDF for transparency, animation, interactivity, filters, blend modes, live effects, and modern color-management features. EPS files can also contain raster images, which remain limited by their original pixel resolution.

Convert SVG to EPS online

1. Open the converter on 101convert.com.
2. Upload the .svg file and select EPS as the output format.

4. Open the EPS in a vector editor or the recipient's print application and check the page bounds, colors, line weights, text, and effects.

This method requires no installed software. Before uploading, make sure the SVG does not depend on unavailable external stylesheets, fonts, or linked images; embed those resources or keep them with the source file when the converter supports them.

Convert SVG to EPS with Inkscape

1. Open the SVG in Inkscape and inspect the page size, artwork bounds, fonts, fills, strokes, clipping paths, masks, and linked images.
2. Make a backup of the editable SVG. If the recipient may not have the required fonts, select the text and use Path → Object to Path. Outlined text is no longer directly editable as text.
3. Remove or recreate effects that PostScript may not reproduce correctly, such as blur, drop shadows, complex masks, blend modes, and transparency.
4. Use File → Save a Copy, choose Encapsulated PostScript (*.eps), and save a filename such as logo.eps.
5. Reopen the EPS and compare it with the SVG, preferably in the software or RIP that will use the file.

For batch work, an installed Inkscape version may export with:

EPS export depends on the Inkscape version and installed export extensions. If the command is unavailable, use the graphical save dialog or consult the format list shown by that installation.

Convert SVG to EPS with Adobe Illustrator

1. Open the SVG with File → Open.
2. Use Type → Create Outlines for text that must not depend on installed fonts.
3. Replace or simplify transparency, filters, masks, and unsupported live effects.
4. Choose File → Save As or File → Save a Copy, select Illustrator EPS (eps), and save.
5. Choose an EPS version compatible with the target application; older versions can improve legacy compatibility but may discard newer Illustrator features.

Quality and compatibility limits

• Vector paths remain scalable, but embedded or linked raster images do not gain resolution during conversion.
• EPS has limited transparency support. Transparent regions and blend modes may be flattened, made opaque, or rendered differently depending on the exporter and EPS reader.
• Web fonts and unavailable desktop fonts can be substituted. Embedding fonts where supported or converting text to outlines prevents substitution.
• Gradients, patterns, clipping paths, masks, and filters can vary between EPS readers, especially in older PostScript workflows.
• Set the page or artboard deliberately. Excess page area creates unwanted whitespace, while artwork outside the page may be clipped.
• EPS is a static print format; it does not preserve SVG animation, scripting, hyperlinks, or interactive behavior.
• Keep the original SVG as the editable master. EPS conversion can permanently change text, effects, transparency, and resource references.
