Free online FH11 to EPS converter

An archived logo, illustration, or print file may need EPS output for a prepress system, vector editor, or page-layout application that does not accept FH11. Converting it also provides a more portable format for sharing while retaining scalable vector artwork where the source supports it.

What the FH11 format is

FH11 is the native document format of Macromedia FreeHand MX, version 11. It can contain editable vector paths, text, fills, strokes, layers, page layouts, placed images, and color definitions. FreeHand was discontinued, so current design applications usually cannot open FH11 files directly or may interpret some features incorrectly.

What the EPS format is

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a print-oriented format containing PostScript artwork, a required bounding box, and optionally a preview image. It is accepted by many older prepress systems and can be placed in page-layout software or opened by vector editors.

EPS is appropriate for logos, line art, illustrations, and other artwork built from paths because those paths remain scalable. It is not a full replacement for the original FreeHand document: layers, editability, transparency, live effects, and some color behavior may be lost or converted during export.

How to convert the file

Use 101convert.com

1. Open the FH11-to-EPS conversion page on 101convert.com.
2. Upload the .fh11 file and choose EPS as the output format.
3. Start the conversion and download the generated .eps file when processing finishes.
4. Open the result in the destination application and check the page bounds, text, colors, placed images, and artwork at high magnification.

This method does not require FreeHand or other installed software. Do not use an online upload for confidential artwork unless the file-handling terms are acceptable; use a local legacy workflow when manual verification or strict prepress control is required.

Export from FreeHand 11

1. Run Macromedia FreeHand MX on a compatible legacy computer or virtual machine. The discontinued application may require an old operating system, an existing license, and fonts that are no longer available.
2. Open the source with File → Open and select the .fh11 file.
3. Check linked images, fonts, page size, artwork bounds, color swatches, overprinting, clipping paths, and effects before exporting.
4. Choose File → Export, select EPS, and specify a filename such as artwork.eps.
5. Choose the EPS or PostScript level required by the receiving workflow and select the intended color model. Convert text to outlines if the recipient lacks the original fonts and no editable text is needed.
6. Open the exported file in a vector or prepress application, inspect separations and image links, and make a proof before production.

Use an archived Illustrator workflow

Some older Adobe Illustrator releases can import FreeHand files with Adobe's FreeHand import script or plug-in. Archived Adobe documentation associates this workflow with Illustrator CS4 and CS5; current Illustrator releases generally do not open FH11 files directly. If an already licensed legacy Illustrator installation and the corresponding importer are available, import the file, inspect the result, and use File → Export or File → Save As to create EPS. Do not assume that a newer Illustrator version will preserve FreeHand-specific effects or text layout.

Quality and compatibility limits

PostScript does not represent every FreeHand feature directly. Transparency, blends, gradient meshes, clipping masks, live effects, complex fills, and placed-image behavior may be flattened, changed, or rasterized. EPS also does not reliably preserve the original FreeHand layer structure or document-level editability.

Missing fonts can cause substitution, reflow, or different glyph shapes. Outlining text prevents font substitution but removes text editing, may increase file size, and can create very large numbers of paths. Font embedding is subject to the font license and may not be available in every export workflow.

Check the EPS bounding box, page size, CMYK and spot-color definitions, overprint settings, raster-image resolution, and linked-image inclusion. A preview can look correct while separations, overprints, or external images are wrong, so inspect the file in the receiving prepress application rather than relying only on its thumbnail.
