A .obj file is a 3D model format, while .jpg or .jpeg is a 2D raster image format. Because of that, OBJ to JPG conversion does not turn 3D geometry into an image directly. Instead, you usually render the model or export a screenshot from a 3D application.

How to convert

If you only need a quick preview, a simple viewport capture may be enough. If you need a cleaner result, use a proper render with the desired background, resolution, and lighting.

Important notes

JPG is a lossy format, so it is best for photos and previews, but not ideal if you need transparency or maximum image quality. If you need a transparent background, PNG is usually a better choice.

If your goal is to preserve the 3D model itself, do not convert it to JPG, because JPG cannot store 3D data. Keep the original OBJ file for editing, printing, or reuse.

OBJ files often rely on companion material files such as .mtl and texture images. If those files are missing, the rendered JPG may look different from the original model.

Dedicated 3D software, online viewers, and rendering tools can all be used for this task, but the exact steps vary by program.
