How to convert x_t to jpg file

A supplier may provide a Parasolid model that must be placed in a report, catalog, web page, or ordinary image viewer. Converting it produces a fixed 2D view for sharing or previewing, not an editable 3D model.

What the X_T format is

X_T is the text-based Parasolid exchange format for precise 3D solid and surface geometry. Siemens Parasolid-based applications such as Siemens NX and Solid Edge create and read it, and other mechanical CAD systems can import or export it.

An X_T file can contain bodies, faces, curves, and assembly-related geometry, depending on the exporting application. The binary Parasolid counterpart is usually .x_b. A typical file is part.x_t, received from a supplier or used to transfer geometry between engineering systems.

What the JPG format is

JPG is a lossy raster-image format that stores colored pixels rather than solids, surfaces, dimensions, feature history, or editable CAD coordinates. It is supported by web browsers, office software, catalogs, email clients, and ordinary image viewers.

JPG produces relatively small files for rendered views and previews. Lossy compression can blur thin edges, small holes, annotations, and other technical details, especially after repeated editing or recompression.

How to convert X_T to JPG

With CAD Exchanger Desktop

CAD Exchanger Desktop is a suitable standalone option for opening Parasolid files and exporting a view without the original CAD application.

  1. Open part.x_t with File → Open.
  2. Wait for the model to load and use the fit-to-view command so the complete part or assembly is visible.
  3. Set the camera with the orbit controls or view cube. Use an orthographic view for technical documentation and perspective for a presentation image.
  4. Choose the background, shaded or wireframe display, edge visibility, hidden-line mode, and visible bodies.
  5. Use the image export or viewport-capture command, select JPG if available, set the pixel dimensions and quality, and save the result as part.jpg.

Menu names vary by release. If the installed version does not offer direct JPG export, capture the viewport at the highest available resolution, or export PNG first and convert that image to JPG with an image editor.

With Siemens NX, Solid Edge, or another CAD system

  1. Open part.x_t through File → Open or the application’s Parasolid import command.
  2. Check the imported model for missing faces, incorrect bodies, or other import problems.
  3. Fit the model to the viewport and set the camera, shading, edge display, background, and visible components.
  4. Use the program’s image export or screen-capture function, such as File → Export → Image where supported, and choose JPG.

Exact menu names and available export formats depend on the CAD system and its licensed modules. The Parasolid kernel version and unsupported entities can also affect how the X_T file opens, so inspect the model before creating the image.

With an online viewer

For a non-confidential file, a web-based CAD viewer such as CAD Exchanger Web or ShareCAD may be useful when it supports the file’s Parasolid version. Upload the X_T file, orient and fit the model, then use the viewer’s image export or capture function. If it has no image export, save a browser screenshot and crop it.

Many generic online converters cannot create a meaningful result because JPG has no structure for 3D geometry. Uploading a model transfers potentially proprietary design data to a third party, so check retention, access, and export-control terms before using an online service.

Quality and compatibility limits

A JPG contains only the selected camera view. It does not preserve hidden faces, alternate orientations, assembly hierarchy, measurements, materials, or CAD editability. Those details must be shown or annotated before export, and separate views require separate images.

Use a sufficiently large output canvas for the intended print or display size; increasing JPG quality cannot restore detail lost through low-resolution rendering. PNG is preferable for sharp linework, transparent backgrounds, or further editing. If JPG is required, export a high-resolution PNG first when possible, then save one final JPG at a quality setting around 85–95%.
