How to convert a DOC file to TXT

Using Microsoft Word

Open the DOC file in Word.
Choose File → Save As.
Select Plain Text (*.txt) as the file type, choose a destination, and save.
When Word displays the file-conversion or encoding dialog, select UTF-8 unless the receiving application requires a different encoding.
Open the resulting TXT file in a plain-text editor and check character rendering, line breaks, paragraph spacing, and the order of extracted text.

Using LibreOffice Writer

Open the DOC file in LibreOffice Writer.
Choose File → Save As and select Text (.txt) as the file type.
Confirm Use Text Format if LibreOffice asks whether to use the text format.
In the text export options, select UTF-8 and configure paragraph breaks or field handling if the receiving program has specific requirements.
