Model type
A relief raises the bright parts of the picture above a base plate: terrain, embossed logos, signs. A lithophane is a thin plate that is thicker where the picture is dark, so the photo appears when light shines through it. Print it in white filament.
Model size (longest side)
Height
Relief: how far the brightest parts rise above the base plate. Lithophane: the thickest point of the plate (the thinnest is 0.8 mm). Auto uses 5 mm for a relief and 3 mm for a lithophane.
Mesh detail
More detail keeps finer features of the picture, but the file gets bigger and slower to slice.
Swaps high and low, for example to raise a dark logo on a white background.

A WEBP image must sometimes be placed into a 3D asset because a game engine, AR viewer, or 3D editor accepts only GLB. This is not a direct image-format conversion: GLB needs geometry, materials, and usually UV coordinates, so the WEBP becomes a texture on a model.
What the WEBP format is
WEBP is a raster image format created by Google and used for web graphics, interface assets, reference images, and texture files. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency, and animation. Browsers, image editors, web export tools, and some 3D applications create or save WEBP files.
A WEBP contains pixels but no vertices, faces, UV coordinates, camera, lighting, or 3D scene data. It therefore cannot become a complete 3D object without adding geometry and material information.
What the GLB format is
GLB is the binary form of glTF 2.0. It can store a 3D scene, meshes, transforms, materials, animations, and embedded images in one file. Game engines, WebGL viewers, AR applications, CAD viewers, and 3D tools commonly use it for compact distribution.
Unlike a separate .gltf file with external buffers and textures, a GLB normally packages those resources into one binary file. This simplifies sharing and prevents missing texture-file references, but compatibility still depends on the application supporting the glTF features used.
How to convert WEBP to GLB
Use Blender when the intended result is a GLB scene containing the image as a textured plane, card, billboard, or other simple mesh.
- Open Blender and delete the default cube if it is not needed.
- Add geometry through Object → Add → Mesh → Plane. A plane already has usable UV coordinates for a rectangular image.
- Create a material in the Material Properties panel and add an Image Texture node in the Shader Editor.
- Open the WEBP in the Image Texture node, connect its
Coloroutput to the Principled BSDFBase Colorinput, and connect its alpha output to the material's alpha input if the image has transparency. - Adjust the material's blend or render mode when transparent pixels must remain transparent. Blender's exact setting name varies by version, such as Material Properties → Settings → Blend Mode or Surface Render Method.
- Convert the texture to PNG or JPEG when the target viewer has incomplete WebP support. In Blender, use Image Editor → Image → Save As, then select
PNGorJPEGand replace the material's image with the converted file. - Select the mesh and choose File → Export → glTF 2.0. Set the format to
GLB, enableSelected Objectsif only the textured object should be exported, and use the image embedding or automatic image option. - Save the result with a
.glbfilename and test it in the intended engine or viewer.
For a flat image displayed in a 3D scene, keep the plane at its original aspect ratio so the texture does not stretch. For a label, decal, or texture intended for an existing model, import that model, assign the WEBP to its UV-mapped material, and export the complete scene instead of creating a new plane.
You can also check 101convert.com for a free conversion option without installing software, but an automated service cannot infer meaningful 3D geometry from an ordinary image. Blender is required when the output needs a deliberate mesh, UV layout, material, or transparency setup.
Quality, compatibility, and limitations
The exported GLB does not gain depth, surface detail, or camera-viewable sides from the WEBP. A plane viewed from an angle remains flat; turning a photograph into a sculpted or watertight model requires photogrammetry, modeling, or another geometry-generation workflow.
Use PNG when the image contains transparency or sharp text. Use JPEG for photographic textures without transparency when smaller size matters. Converting a lossy WEBP to JPEG can introduce another generation of compression artifacts.
GLB viewers may support PNG and JPEG more consistently than WebP, and some may ignore advanced material settings, animations, or alpha modes. Test transparency, color, texture orientation, and scale after export; these properties depend on both Blender's export settings and the receiving application.
