3. Run a command such as ffmpeg -i input.voc -c:a aac -b:a 192k output.aac.

5. Verify the output by playing output.aac in a compatible audio player.

Notes on quality and compatibility

VOC is often low-fidelity source audio, so converting it to AAC will not improve the original recording quality; it only changes the compression format. Because AAC is a lossy codec, repeated re-encoding should be avoided. For best results, convert from the original VOC file only once.

Some VOC files contain unusual legacy blocks or very old sample rates, and not every editor can open them correctly. If a program fails to read the file, FFmpeg is usually the most compatible option. Also note that .aac is typically the raw AAC bitstream format; if you need maximum device compatibility, you may prefer an M4A container instead, created with a command such as ffmpeg -i input.voc -c:a aac -b:a 192k output.m4a.
