Free online IFV to OGG converter

IFV files commonly come from proprietary CCTV or DVR systems, while OGG is an audio container supported by many media players and editors. Converting is useful when the recording’s audio must be extracted for editing, playback, or archival in a standard format.

What the IFV format is

IFV is usually a proprietary surveillance-video container produced by certain DVRs, security cameras, and their vendor playback software. Its exact codec and stream structure vary by manufacturer, so an IFV file may contain video only, video with audio, or metadata that generic media tools cannot read.

You may encounter IFV files after copying recordings from a CCTV recorder, exporting footage from a security application, or removing a camera-system backup from its original storage. The filename extension alone does not identify the codec; inspect the file with the recorder’s player or a media probe before converting it.

What the OGG format is

OGG is a multimedia container most commonly used with Vorbis or Opus audio. It provides good lossy compression at relatively small sizes and is supported by applications such as VLC, Audacity, Firefox, and many Linux audio tools.

OGG is appropriate when you need an audio file rather than surveillance video. It is not a preservation format for the original CCTV evidence because conversion can discard video, timestamps, camera metadata, and other forensic information.

How to convert IFV to OGG

Use the built-in online converter

1. Open the IFV-to-OGG converter on 101convert.com.
2. Select the .ifv file and choose OGG as the output format.
3. Start the conversion and download the resulting .ogg file when processing finishes.
4. Play the output in VLC or import it into Audacity to verify that the expected audio was extracted.

This option requires no installed software. Do not upload recordings containing sensitive security footage unless your organization permits processing through an online service.

Use FFmpeg when the IFV decoder is supported

Install a current FFmpeg build, open a terminal in the folder containing the file, and inspect its streams:

ffprobe input.ifv

If the probe lists an audio stream, extract it as Vorbis in an OGG container:

ffmpeg -i input.ifv -vn -map 0:a:0 -c:a libvorbis -q:a 5 output.ogg

-vn removes video, -map 0:a:0 selects the first audio stream, and -q:a 5 requests a medium-high variable bitrate. For Opus output, use -c:a libopus -b:a 128k instead of the Vorbis options.

Convert through the camera vendor’s software

If FFmpeg reports Invalid data found when processing input, the IFV container is probably proprietary or encrypted. Open the recording in the DVR manufacturer’s player and use Export, Save as, or Convert to create an ordinary AVI, MP4, or WAV file. Then convert that exported file with FFmpeg:

ffmpeg -i exported.wav -c:a libvorbis -q:a 5 output.ogg

For a video export containing audio, the same command with -vn -map 0:a:0 extracts only the audio.

Quality and compatibility limitations

OGG conversion cannot restore audio that the IFV recording never captured, and transcoding already-compressed audio introduces another generation of loss. Keep the original IFV and any vendor-exported file before creating OGG copies.

If the source uses a proprietary audio codec, export to WAV or another broadly supported format first. Verify the output duration, channel count, and synchronization; some surveillance files contain discontinuous timestamps or multiple audio tracks. If the recording has no audio stream, an OGG file cannot be produced with meaningful audio content.
