How to perform the conversion

The best approach is to render the IT module to audio and then save or encode that audio as OGG. Because IT is not a recorded waveform but a sequenced module, the conversion must be done by a player or renderer that can interpret the tracker data.

1. Open the IT file in a tracker or module player that supports export, such as OpenMPT or XMPlay.
2. Load the file and verify that the instruments and effects play correctly.
3. Use the export or render function. In OpenMPT, choose File → Export → Wave or a similar render option to create an uncompressed audio file such as WAV.
4. After rendering, encode the audio to OGG using software that supports Ogg Vorbis output. In many editors, this is available directly through File → Save As or Export with Ogg Vorbis selected.
5. If your tool can export OGG directly, choose the OGG/Vorbis format, set the desired quality or bitrate, and save the file as output.ogg.

Notes on quality and limitations

IT to OGG is a one-way conversion: the tracker structure, patterns, instrument definitions, and effect commands are lost once the module is rendered to audio. The resulting OGG will sound like the module playback at the chosen settings, but it will no longer be editable as an IT composition.

Quality depends on the renderer and export settings. Use a high-quality render, preferably to WAV first, then encode to OGG at a good quality level to avoid unnecessary artifacts. Also note that some IT files rely on tracker-specific effects or playback quirks, so different players may render slightly different results. For archival purposes, keep the original .it file in addition to the exported .ogg.
