3MF (3D Manufacturing Format) is an open-source file format developed by the 3MF Consortium. It is designed for 3D printing and supports rich metadata, color, textures, and multiple materials, making it a preferred choice for modern additive manufacturing workflows.

Why convert EASM to 3MF?

Converting EASM to 3MF is essential when you need to prepare a 3D model for 3D printing or further editing in software that supports 3MF but not EASM. Since EASM is a visualization format, conversion may require access to the original CAD data or intermediate formats.

How to convert EASM to 3MF

Direct conversion from EASM to 3MF is not natively supported by most software, as EASM files are intended for viewing rather than editing or exporting. The recommended workflow involves the following steps:

1. Obtain the original CAD file (such as SLDASM or SLDPRT) if possible, as EASM files do not contain full model data.
2. Open the original file in SolidWorks or another compatible CAD program.
3. Export the model to a neutral format such as STEP or IGES if direct 3MF export is not available.
4. Import the neutral file into a 3D modeling or slicing software that supports 3MF export, such as Autodesk Fusion 360 or Ultimaker Cura.
5. Export the model as a 3MF file using File → Export → 3MF.

Best software for EASM to 3MF conversion

• SolidWorks: If you have access to the original CAD files, SolidWorks can export directly to 3MF (from 2017 version onward) via File → Save As → 3MF.
• Autodesk Fusion 360: Import STEP/IGES files and export as 3MF using File → Export → 3MF.
• Ultimaker Cura: Import STL/OBJ/STEP files and export as 3MF for 3D printing workflows.

Note: If you only have the EASM file and not the original CAD data, conversion options are extremely limited. EASM files are not intended for editing or conversion, so request the original CAD file from the designer if possible.
