Convert EASM to STEP

eDrawings files (EASM, EPRT, EDRW) from SolidWorks are designed for viewing and sharing, not editing or converting CAD files. This means that in most cases eDrawings files cannot be converted to anything else, simply because they are used as previews and for printing - not for further editing. Somewhat similar to PDFs in their use, but used for CAD/3D designs only.

Still, there are perhaps some ways how you can approach and potentially achieve easm to step conversion or similar export.

How to convert eDrawings files to STEP format

Ask the author

• First and foremost obtaining the source file is the most convenient way how to approach this, but of course not always possible. The person that send you that file might even make the STEP export for you directly, without the need to send the file.

Using eDrawings Professional

• If you have access to eDrawings Professional (the paid version of eDrawings), you have more functionality than the free version, including the ability to save eDrawings files as STL and other formats suitable for 3D printing. Once you have STL format, it shouldn't be difficult to convert it to STEP format with one of the available stl to stp converters.

Using SolidWorks

• If the eDrawings file was originally created from SolidWorks, the best way to export it to another format is by using SolidWorks itself, but you will need the source file for this, in case of .easm file it would be the .sldasm assembly file.
• Open the original SolidWorks file and use SolidWorks' export functions to save in the desired format, in case of easm to step conversion, this would be STEP/STP.

Conversion Tools and Services

• Some software designed for CAD interoperability and data exchange might be able to handle eDrawings files, but chance for that are pretty low. These tools often support a wide range of formats and could potentially export eDrawings files to other formats, including STEP.
• There are third-party tools and online conversion services that claim to convert eDrawings files to other formats. The reliability and effectiveness of these tools can vary, and it's important to be cautious with sensitive data when using online services.
