How to convert easm to skp file

easm to skp file conversion

EASM is an eDrawings assembly file, usually published from SolidWorks or another CAD system. SKP is the native file format used by SketchUp. These formats are not directly compatible, so there is no reliable one-click EASM to SKP conversion in SketchUp or SolidWorks.

In some cases, you can open the EASM file in eDrawings or the original CAD software and export the model to a neutral format such as STEP, IGES, or DWG/DXF. You can then import that file into SketchUp and save it as SKP. The result depends on how the EASM file was published and whether it contains exportable geometry.

Important: many EASM files are lightweight viewing files. They may not contain full editable CAD data, so conversion may produce only a simplified mesh, surfaces, or partial geometry instead of a fully editable model.

Typical workflow:

Open in eDrawings or the source CAD software → Export to STEP, IGES, or DWG/DXF if available → Import into SketchUp → Save as SKP

If you need accurate geometry, ask for the original CAD source file rather than the EASM file. For best results in SketchUp, make sure the imported format is supported by your SketchUp version and verify units, scale, and component structure after import.

Note: SketchUp does not natively open EASM files, and SolidWorks plugins are not a standard or dependable method for converting EASM directly to SKP.
