Convert PNG to PTG

Understanding PNG and PTG file formats

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a widely used raster image format known for its lossless compression and support for transparency. It is commonly used for web graphics, digital artwork, and images requiring high quality and transparent backgrounds.

PTG is the native file format for ArtRage, a digital painting software. PTG files store layered artwork, paint textures, and other project-specific data, making them ideal for preserving editable art projects created in ArtRage.

How to convert PNG to PTG

Direct conversion from PNG to PTG is not commonly supported by general-purpose image converters, as PTG is a proprietary format. The best way to convert a PNG image to PTG is by importing the PNG into ArtRage and saving it as a PTG file.

Step-by-step conversion using ArtRage

1. Open ArtRage on your computer.
2. Go to File → Import Image and select your PNG file.
3. Edit or enhance your image as needed within ArtRage.
4. To save as PTG, go to File → Save As and choose the PTG format.

Recommended software for PNG to PTG conversion

• ArtRage (Windows, macOS): The only software that natively supports the PTG format. It allows you to import PNG files and save them as PTG projects, preserving layers and paint data if you add them.

Tips for a successful conversion

• PNG files are flattened images. To take full advantage of PTG's layer support, add new layers or paint over the imported PNG in ArtRage.
• Always save a backup of your original PNG before converting.
