What the JPF format is

Quality and compatibility limits

• Lossy WEBP can remove fine texture, small text detail, and subtle color differences. Increase the quality value or use lossless WEBP when those details matter.
• Lossless WEBP cannot restore detail that was already discarded if the JPF itself used lossy compression.
• Check transparency, color profile, dimensions, and metadata after conversion. Some tools discard ICC profiles or uncommon JPEG 2000 metadata.
• Specialized JPEG 2000 features do not necessarily transfer to WEBP, even when the visible image converts correctly.
• Keep the original JPF as the archival copy and use WEBP as the delivery or working copy.
