What the SRW format is

SRW is Samsung Raw Image, a proprietary camera-raw format used by some Samsung digital cameras. It stores sensor data with camera metadata instead of a finished RGB image, so exposure, white balance, sharpening, and noise reduction are normally applied during development.

WEBP is an image format designed for web delivery and general digital use. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency, animation, and embedded color profiles in supported workflows.

For photographs, lossy WEBP usually produces a smaller file than JPEG at similar visual quality. Lossless WEBP preserves the decoded pixels but can be larger than lossy WEBP. WEBP is suitable for websites, messaging, previews, catalogs, and applications that support modern browser image formats; it is less suitable as a replacement for the original SRW because it does not retain the camera's raw sensor data.

How to convert SRW to WEBP

Quality and compatibility considerations

Converting SRW is a raw-development step, not merely a container change. The output depends on the demosaicing method, exposure interpretation, camera profile, white balance, and sharpening settings used by the converter.

WEBP output is normally an 8-bit-per-channel rendered image, so it cannot preserve the full adjustment latitude of the raw file. Do not delete the SRW if it is the archival original. For maximum editing flexibility, retain a 16-bit TIFF or another high-bit-depth master and create WEBP copies for delivery.

Use sRGB unless the destination specifically supports another profile. Some metadata, maker notes, GPS fields, and camera-specific tags may be removed during conversion. Check the exported dimensions, orientation, color, and metadata if the file is being used in a catalog or publishing system. Uploading camera raws to an online converter may also expose embedded metadata, so remove sensitive metadata or use desktop software when privacy is required.
