Notes on quality and limitations

EPUB is not an image format, so converting it to WEBP is not a direct one-to-one file transformation. The EPUB content must be rendered or extracted first. Because EPUB pages are often reflowable, the appearance of rendered images can vary with screen size, font settings, and layout engine. Text converted to WEBP becomes a flat image, so it is no longer searchable, selectable, or reflowable. For books with many pages, the output can also become large if you export every page as a separate WEBP file.

For best results, use a high rendering resolution before converting to WEBP, especially if the images will be zoomed or printed. If you need to preserve the ebook itself, keep the original EPUB as well, since WEBP is suitable for images but not for editable ebook content.
