A Barudan embroidery machine or its production software may require a .u01 stitch file, while the supplied artwork is a .webp image. Converting it requires digitizing the raster image into stitches; changing the filename extension cannot create a usable embroidery design.

What the WEBP format is

WEBP is a raster image format used for web graphics, product artwork, logos, and reference images. Browsers, websites, phone applications, and image editors commonly create or export it. A WEBP file contains pixels, colors, and possibly transparency, but it contains no embroidery objects, stitch order, thread changes, underlay, density, or hoop information.

What the U01 format is

U01 is a Barudan machine-embroidery format containing machine instructions such as needle movement, stitch order, trims or jumps, and color-change information. It is intended for Barudan-compatible embroidery equipment and software rather than image editing.

U01 stores a design as stitches, so it gives the machine the production data it needs and can be much smaller than the original artwork. Compatibility depends on the specific Barudan machine, controller, hoop, and software version; confirm that the destination system accepts the particular U01 variant before production.

How to actually convert WEBP to U01

Using the online converter

1. Prepare the WEBP image. Crop unnecessary margins, remove accidental background elements, and use the highest-resolution version available.

3. Upload the .webp file and select U01 or the Barudan machine-embroidery output option.

Quality and compatibility limits

Automatic conversion cannot infer the correct stitch structure from a WEBP image. Fine lines may disappear, gradients must be approximated with fills or thread colors, and small text often needs manual redesign. Review stitch density, underlay, pull compensation, jump stitches, trims, and color stops before sewing.

Keep the original WEBP and the digitized project file separately: U01 is a machine-output format and may not preserve editable outlines or the original image. Preview the exported design at actual size, verify thread order and hoop orientation, and test it on similar fabric because the same stitch file can behave differently on dense, stretchy, or unstable material.
