How to perform the conversion

Converting WebP to TXT is not a normal file format conversion. Because WebP is an image, the usual meaning is extracting text from the image with OCR and saving the recognized text as a TXT file.

1. Open the WebP image in an OCR-capable tool. Good desktop options include ABBYY FineReader, Adobe Acrobat for image-based documents, or free OCR tools such as Tesseract.

3. Run OCR on the image. In many apps this is found under Tools → OCR, Recognize Text, or a similar menu.

If you are using Tesseract from the command line, the exact workflow depends on your setup. Some builds can read WebP directly, while others may require converting the image to a supported format first. The goal is to produce a text output file such as output.txt.

If the WebP file does not contain readable text, there is no meaningful direct conversion to TXT. In that case, TXT cannot represent the image itself, and the only options are OCR, manual transcription, or extracting metadata if that is what you need.

Notes on quality, compatibility, or limitations

OCR accuracy is the main limitation. Results depend on image resolution, font clarity, contrast, rotation, noise, and whether the text is handwritten or stylized. A sharp, high-resolution WebP with clean printed text will usually produce much better TXT output than a compressed or blurry image.

If the WebP contains multiple columns, tables, or mixed graphics and text, the plain text output may lose structure. TXT cannot preserve formatting, so headings, columns, and spacing may need manual cleanup after conversion.

Animated WebP files are especially problematic because OCR tools usually process only a single frame or require frame-by-frame extraction first. For best results, use a still image or extract the relevant frame before OCR.

TXT cannot store image data. If your goal is to preserve the picture itself, choose another image format instead of TXT. If your goal is to capture the words inside the image, OCR is the correct workflow.
