Free online TXT to GLTF converter

A game engine, web viewer, or 3D pipeline may require glTF when model data was delivered in a file named .txt. The conversion is possible only if that text contains recognizable 3D data, such as glTF JSON, OBJ records, vertices, and face indices.

What TXT files contain

.txt is a generic plain-text filename extension, not a defined 3D format. Text editors, scripts, CAD exports, scanners, and engineering tools can produce text files, but the extension does not specify geometry, units, materials, coordinate axes, or scene structure.

A TXT file may contain prose, CSV-style measurements, a custom vertex list, Wavefront OBJ syntax, JSON, or a valid glTF document saved with the wrong extension. Open it in a code editor before converting. Records such as v 0 0 0 and f 1 2 3 indicate OBJ-style mesh data; glTF JSON normally contains fields such as "asset", "meshes", "buffers", and "accessors".

A list of X, Y, and Z positions alone defines points, not a surface. A mesh also needs face or triangle indices that state which vertices connect.

What GLTF files provide

glTF, maintained by the Khronos Group, is a runtime-oriented 3D scene format. A .gltf file contains JSON describing scenes, nodes, meshes, materials, cameras, skins, and animations; it usually references a separate .bin geometry buffer and image files.

The related .glb format packages the JSON and binary data into one binary file and can also embed images. Use GLB when one file is required for delivery or upload; use separate .gltf, .bin, and texture files when those resources must remain individually accessible.

glTF supports efficient binary geometry, PBR materials, textures, animations, and scene hierarchies. It is widely supported by Blender, web renderers such as three.js and Babylon.js, and many game-engine import workflows.

Determine the source structure first

1. Open the TXT file in a code editor and inspect its first lines and delimiters.
2. If it contains valid glTF JSON, rename model.txt to model.gltf; this is not a conversion.
3. Keep every referenced resource at the relative path declared in the JSON. For example, "uri":"model.bin" requires an accessible model.bin file, usually beside model.gltf.
4. If it contains OBJ syntax, rename the file to .obj before importing it into a 3D application.
5. If it uses custom rows or columns, identify the vertex fields, index base, face definitions, units, coordinate axes, and any material references before writing or using an importer.

Convert OBJ-style text with Blender

1. Rename the source from model.txt to model.obj only when its contents actually follow Wavefront OBJ syntax.
2. In Blender, choose File → Import → Wavefront (.obj) and select the renamed file.
3. Inspect the imported mesh for missing faces, inverted normals, incorrect scale, rotation, and absent materials.
4. Correct the model as needed, then choose File → Export → glTF 2.0.
5. Select glTF Separate (.gltf + .bin + textures) when a .gltf package is required, or select glTF Binary (.glb) for a single-file result.
6. Enable Selected Objects if the Blender scene contains objects other than the imported model, then export.

Convert custom coordinate data

Custom TXT layouts require a parser because no universal column order or mesh syntax exists. A Blender Python script can read the text, create vertices and faces, assign materials, and export through File → Export → glTF 2.0. A program using a glTF-writing library can instead generate the required buffer views, accessors, mesh primitives, and JSON directly.

Compatibility and quality checks

• Renaming works only for text that is already valid glTF JSON. Renaming OBJ, CSV, or custom data to .gltf does not convert its syntax or geometry.
• glTF uses a right-handed coordinate system with +Y up and meters as the conventional linear unit. CAD and scan data often uses millimeters or centimeters, so verify dimensions and apply scale before export.
• glTF mesh primitives are commonly triangles. Quads and n-gons may be triangulated during import or export, which can alter diagonals and shading.
• OBJ materials, external texture paths, CAD entities, and application-specific metadata may not map directly to glTF PBR materials. Reconnect textures and rebuild materials where necessary.
• Point-only data can be stored as glTF point primitives, but it will not become a closed solid or an accurate surface without connectivity or a deliberate surface-reconstruction step.
• Keep the .gltf, .bin, and texture files together when using separate glTF export; moving one file can break the references.
