Free online OGM to TS converter

Devices and video workflows that require MPEG transport streams cannot usually accept the older OGM container directly. Converting it to TS makes the video usable for broadcast-oriented playback, some hardware players, and software that expects an MPEG-TS input.

What the OGM format is

OGM, or Ogg Media, is an Ogg-based multimedia container used mainly for video files distributed in the 2000s. It can hold video codecs such as Xvid or DivX, Vorbis audio, multiple audio tracks, and embedded subtitles.

OGM files were commonly created with Ogg media muxers and older tools such as VirtualDubMod and OggMux. VLC, MPlayer, MPC-HC, and other software-based players can often open them, but newer televisions, editing systems, and hardware devices may not recognize the container or its Vorbis audio.

What the TS format is

TS is the MPEG transport stream container, designed to carry packetized audio and video through broadcast, DVB, IPTV, and recording systems. Files commonly use the .ts extension and contain MPEG-2 or H.264 video with AAC, MPEG audio, or AC-3 audio.

TS supports error-resistant streaming and can contain several programs or audio tracks in one file. It is appropriate when a television recorder, set-top box, broadcast tool, or video application specifically requires MPEG-TS. The extension alone does not guarantee compatibility: the codecs inside the stream must also be supported by the target device.

How to actually convert OGM to TS

Using the online converter

1. Open the OGM-to-TS converter on 101convert.com.
2. Upload the .ogm file and select TS as the output format.
3. Start the conversion, then download the resulting .ts file when processing finishes.

This method requires no installed software. It is suitable when the source file is a normal, playable OGM and the conversion does not require detailed control over codecs, tracks, or bitrate.

Using FFmpeg

Install FFmpeg, open a terminal in the folder containing the source, and use this command for a broadly compatible TS file:

ffmpeg -i input.ogm -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0? -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -b:a 192k -f mpegts output.ts

This transcodes the video to H.264 and the audio to AAC, which avoids the common problem of TS players rejecting OGM's Vorbis audio. Replace input.ogm and output.ts with the actual filenames.

If the target system accepts the source codecs, try a stream copy first:

ffmpeg -i input.ogm -map 0 -c copy -f mpegts output.ts

Stream copying is faster and preserves the original quality, but it can fail or produce a poorly supported file when the OGM contains Vorbis, unusual subtitle streams, unsupported video codecs, or container-specific metadata.

Quality, compatibility, and limitations

A stream copy does not reduce quality because it does not decode and re-encode the media. Transcoding changes the media and can introduce generation loss; use a lower CRF value such as 18 for higher H.264 quality and a higher value such as 23 for a smaller file.

TS is not inherently smaller than OGM. File size depends on the selected video and audio bitrates, and H.264/AAC output may be larger or smaller than the original Xvid/Vorbis streams.

Subtitles and chapter information may not transfer in a useful form. The command above selects the first video and first audio stream and omits subtitles. Extract subtitle tracks separately if the destination device cannot display embedded subtitle data. Use ffprobe input.ogm to inspect available streams before choosing mappings.
